ee eh Soh coon For Ger, , Por Coroner, RH. Farquhar.; W.C. Stiles, Por Recorder, Publie Administrator, ' Fo? District Attorney, Supt. of Schools, -—~ nCaldwelk . MS. Deal. %F. Spence. = Jonathan Clark. ~~ Dowt Lue ‘THe Pont.—The Gazette 1s extremely tender upon the bolting queston. Nearly two weeks ago’the sore-bead “Convention met, and as yet no reasonable “excuse has been made for the attempt to biéak up the Union party. The proseriy ‘tien of Democrats has been charged against the Union Convention, but when it it shown that the best offices of the State and county \arein the hands of men of Democratic antecedents, and that one half the men on the egular ticket are theaame kind, that ground is abandoned. They raised the question of suff attempting to force it upon charger there is any issie and it is showa that their leader, Conness, . Sant in favor @f opening the ~Apallot. box to negroes and that the only papers in the State which have sided with hi are thort-baired, they dudge the issue by saying Conness is ‘het their master, and does'nt owntheir party. However this may phe, it, is undoubtedly true thatthe bolters , county are making a fight ‘ia, the interest of Couness and Low. They ‘made in the pi maries, were defeated and Seeicicd ty ‘loyal men of the county, but they were. not satisfied and are, now making the same fight again. The calls. in thie and Yuba counties are the same and uoD ematiated ftom the mauaging “Towites “The bolters in this county would never have entered the fight had-they not ween encouraged and assisted by leading ofthort-baires in the State. It is now well established that the movement was premeditdted wid thit'the Gisorgdnizers intend to ~parsue @ like course throughout the State wherever they are defgated. The treacheryiof the sore-heada ie evident and hence they do not like the point. The Gazette attempts to blind the public to the merits of ( Ue’ question ‘And the infamy of Kent, Hawyand the balance of the bolters by atupon Sargent. We should. think that Seapidttonce of the past would indicate a dif. ferent course. That style of warfare seems to bave bécdinie “chroni¢ with ‘that journal, “each issue must contain ecacarcena of abuse. villify Sargent that garbled. extracts are made io order to serve their purpdes. The * Aiiérican Flag, known tu be -vitterly opposed to Sargent, recently published an article headed, ‘“Discountenance and Disown Ever where, _ starting out with an paca gh » The Garetie copies “Whe attack opon Sargent, but is careful to avoid any allusion to the subject of the arti‘Gle, oF to quote any further than serves its e vf, gbuse. In order to show the al po-nt of the Plag’s aiticle We quote the following: “*° “Phe ‘principle of unity and party: disci. . _pline must be sustained. The conduct of ‘tthe boltere in Nevada county deserves the Tobe men. We denounce.it as unjustifia die politically infamays, and refuse to ad a hayessead 1 pape idig'aoy existing rebition to the Union party of the State, und their representatives canRot. be admitted to any of ite conve or to its Legislative caucuses.’ Having into the’ Coutity “Contention; tacitly or by ‘words, or tered * pn hb psa receoty appearing in Novae county, if not g bet wet were overcortie last year ; 7] tenorilg will « Tinto: power, Gen, Evans has positively demost earnest condemnation Oe] which, though half dead uk catthe atm nel whenever the Uyion realize the ‘of unity pealen fe paceeety neon ‘oa and if the example of the: bolters in San Francisco and Nevada is initiated in a few. others of the more popalous counties, that tenance, frown on and disown every demagogue who is found fomenting or encouraging dissention, or who refuses to obey the decision of majorities in county conventions. It matters not whether such discensionst be a Senator of the United States, or a Governor of a Commenwealth,. or a discomfited candidate; when found so occupied he is a traitor to the Union party and should be forever deprived of its confidence and favor.” This.is where. the bolters were cut upon the raw and it don’t suit the men whose lust for office have led. them to trample upon oaths and obligations. Thrice in this county have these disorganizers attempted to distract the public attention from the real point at issue by abusing Sargent, and thrice “have: they failed and been repudiated. by. the peple. _ Their tactics have now. become tvo old to deceive anybody and ‘they will be at tl defeated again. Dow't Go with Tuem—Ia our issue of June 29th, we published the following : We understand that-one ofthe agents of the’ Low, Sdars & Co. bolters presented their “People’ 6 Unien Convention’ eall to a prominent resident of township a his ge fhcket bt tate hard for success r in. primaries and was expected to go with the bolters, but like an honorable a one who evoke lines more of the great Union party than of anf in idual he isiduel, be indignantly refused. Yet, ‘notwithstanding his entire repudiation of the movement, the bolters had the audacity to place his name upon their ticket for the “Aisembly,” huping by the use of the name of such a man teride . clined taking any part.with the bolters, but will give a hearty active support to the .entire Regular Union Ticket.
