Destruttive Fire?
On Tuesday morning the dwelling
house, barn and fruit houses belonging to Josiah Rogers, proprietor. of
by fire, and the loss is estimated: to
be in the neighborhood of $5u00,
On the morning mentioned Mr. Rogers being sick, his wife’ arose and
kindled a fire in the parlor, after
which she “went to the kitchen. to
work, On-retarning to the parlor
a few minutes afterwards, she discov-"
ered the whole ceiling. surrounding
the stove pipe, in a blaze, and all
the efforts of the family proved unavailing to quench the flames, until
everything was destroyed. There
was nothing saved except the clothing the family hud on their backs,
Mr. Rogers is an old man and unable to do heavy work, ‘and the “loss
will therefore fall heavily onhim.
He has the sympathy of the entire
community.

behalf of the Central Paclic Railroad Co., for a reduction of their as‘sessment from $363,000 to $237,500,
on their Railroad track and Telegraph line, E.B. Ryan was duly
sworn and examined in reference to
the value of the property, and the
matter was taken under advisement.
L.H. Dikeman, Agt. of ‘the Excelsior Water Co. filed with the Board
the application of said.Co. for a reduction of their assessment from
$100,000 te $57,400, and. after-hearing the statement of Mr. Dikeman,
the matter was taken under advisement,
The Clerk was instructed to notifyD. M. Barker to appear before
the Board on or before the 30th of
July, to show cause wiy his assessment should not -be raised from
$3,625 to $4,860. ae
The usual honr of adjournment
having arrived, the Board adjourned .
