The stodk market is yet eu ffering from the effects of the late panic, and the prices of shares are not only not inflated, bat teally low; there is no unsound speculation going forward in financiul cirs cles, but, on the contrary, speculators are put on board of an English schooner and sent to New. Oregon, which runs between San Francisco inaétivity; in produce and merchandise there is no undue inflation of prices arising from apeculation ; the trade in cotton goods, for inetance, waa never in a more conserva~ tive condition than to day, the production being sold largely atiead, and the stock on the market merely nominal iv amount, whilst last year large anrounte of goods were in the hundeof outside parties, and prices were gebérally inflated by speculation; the trade in wooléna ie in a very similar condition, prices being based almost exclusively on legitimate supply and demand; and nearly all domeatic manufactures are similarly situated. Last year the markets were very diff-rentlg situated. In every branch of trade there had ‘been a large amount of speculation based upon an anticipated rise in gold, and when avictory occurred that appeared likely to arrest the advance in gold, speculators wefe naturally anxious to realize, and a rush ofvollers upon the market put down prices. Thua the reault that naturally followed froiw the condition of affairs last year, may not be expected to oceur, under the greatly altered wee of the markets, in connection with ‘dny-auccessesthat may be won this year.” The conclusion of the writer is fully sub“‘etantianted by the events of the last few . monthe. _—_—--— _._ Ceceprated Bauirons.—Mr. Edwin (baritone) arrived on the steamer St it under engagement to Mr. Maguire.— sh a reputation yeare go, while singing with the Woot Opéra Troupe . and Mexican perta.
