ale a DAILY TRANSCRIPT NEVADA CITY, CALIFORMA. : Wedsesiay, July. 16th, 1879. A Prosperens Eras — ere ‘ From inquiry at local banking establishments we learn that at the present time more moneylis in cireulation hereabouts than before for five yea's at least. This condition of prosperity has now extended over. —/ period of three months and bids fair to contiume permanettly. The cleanups of the various ‘wines for June are unusally large, and no ch atht on 2 wamaaieecia) coe comparatively greater running expenses have been incurred. The favorable results attained in this line diive encouraged the re-inauguration of work ou a large number of hitherto dead-and-alive enterprises with a vigor that, if ;ersisted ip; cannot but _ give good returns, — Perhaps oue of the most patent~“symptoms uf the healthful state ining i try, upow the activity of which the community's prosperity altogether _depends, is the large amount of capi" tal bemg brought here from other parte of the Coast aud the Egst, in the hopes that its owners may find. profitable investments. + None of those have the busness insight to appreciate the advans . tages. oileeed them here, and the merve to grasp such opportunities, take their departure without investing more or less, as their circumstances may warrant. The preliminary steps have just been taken for the transfer of some of the largest quartz : mines, and oneor two of the chief “gravel claims, possession to be given soon, while active steps are being taken. to develop. several extensive . . properties, unworked as yet, in the county. That Nevada county is en. tering upon a more prosperous era just now than she has seen before for a number of years, cannot be disputed truthfully. ; _—_—_s ¢o-—* IMfference as Well as Distinction. Over in Nevada county the Repub~ licans and Democrats are joining furees. Ifthey don’t experience a} hig mutual disgust before they are through with it, we shall miss our’ guess. The Workingmen and the: “Honorable Bilks” are not so har. . monious.— Placer Argus. You are mistaken thereto a certain extent, friend Argus. "Tis true Races at Glénbrook Park. Nevada county can ‘beast a large nurber-of fast horsésy but fora long time no opportunity has been offerThere is a race track . at San Juan, but if is ip such a condition we understand that it can be traversé# only by saddle-horses. Another-track at Glenbrook Park, between this city and Grass Valley, has in former days because of its admirable natural advantages, together with the work put.upen it, become popular with’ sporting men. Of late it has been wsed but little, a fact that was not se much due'to the public losing interest in such matters os that no ope seemed to take hold and arrange for races. This season thé owner, I Mr. Fryer, has tendered its use free fof charge to the owners of fast stock. Those gentlemen, anxious to afford amusements to the public, will on next Saturday give a series of races, . including runméng, trottmg and pacing; atid a good share of the quickest ‘indus-. steppers in Nevada and Sierra-counties will show what they are made of. ~An admission fee of 50 cents: will be charged spectators, and the entire net proceeds will be appiled ‘to putting the track in a splendid shape for future events of the kind. Getchell, work on roads, The Board having é€xamined the books and accounts of John A. Rapp, the Republicans are joining forces,’ ‘found correct were appcoved and deand the Democrats are doing the sauie, but neither have the léast idea of getting mixed together in the process. Both parties will stand alone oa their “own ‘Merits. There will also be two other tickets in the field this Fall, most likely—the H, B.’s and the Kearneyites. A desperate effort is being made by all of the former (we reckon them by the halfdozens, by the way) and a few of the latter to fuse the two parties in sapport of a common county and Legislative ticket. These ‘‘doublers-up,” in pursuance of a deadly hostility to the old parties that have nursed them kindly in the past and been the means of surrounding them with advantages that are paramount, . will not stop short of any steps that. they think may crush out their ex-guardians. It is a consoling Whought, however, that action partaking of coalition will drive a large portion of the Workingmen back to their old loves, and more certainly than ever insure defeat of both the H. B.’s and the Kearneyites, Nevada county is ‘ toelect a Republican ticket next Fall. The assurance of that: fact is everywhere visible. The stalwarts nts to discover any metod whereby the hand of Fate cam be wade to withdraw from defy their op the shaping of events. Fire! Fire? Fire! on Fortunately thus far this year Nevada City has escaped any fierce or.slaught from the red-tongued destroyer, them, it will not be wise for our people to relax their vigilance a. single While we have one of the moment, best.tive departments on the coast, we should not become careless and -vely upom thenrtu put oat fires that can just: aswell be prevented from starting atall by a little caution. We are authorized te state that Messrs. Shoecraft & Co.,. who purchased the property from Jobin Parrot last spring, as chronicled in the Transcripr at the time, still retain bona fide possession. The exact time when they are to commence operations is not yet determined upon, but it probably will be shortly. = ee eFire Precautions. ‘Chief Engineer Naftziger and Foremav Braud went to the town réservow yesterday and cleaned. the screens .of the bulkhead.
