NEVADA CITY, CAL.
LOCAL AFFAIRS,
The Attempted Mill Robbery.
Yesterday we made brief mention
of the attempt to rob the Nevada
Flouring Mills on Saturday night.
The following are the particulars:
As Mr. Burroughs, the watchman,
was--making his rounds he heard a
noise, and on going to the engine
room found the door unlocked an&
a key in it, ~He quietly turned the
key and went to the house and
aroused Jonathan and John W. Clark.
They came to the mill to watch that
the robbers did not escape while
Hurroughs went for Officer Scott.
He returned with the officer in a
short time. The whole party then
went into the mill and found that
three sacks of feed had been removed
to the engine room. The rogues
could not be found. They probably
came to the door while Burroughs
ing it locked escaped from the mill
by some other way. They failed,
however, in their attempt to rob.
ae
Cabins Robbed.
mitted on.Oustomah Hill. Within
the past two weeks the cabin of the
Justice Brothers, has been twice
robbed. The last time. a considerable amount of clothing was stelen.
The robbers were not detected.
Es Convicted.
The Chinaman charged with assault upon Mrs. Fairchild was tri
before Justice Caldwell yesterday
mornitig and convicted. By some it
“is supposed the Chinaman is insane,
and it is probable that an inquiry
will be had into his sanity to-day.
The time for judgment is 8 o’clock
this evening.

The Caucus. — .
"All Republicans of Nevada precinct
should remember that a caucus for
the purpose of nominating delegates
held at the Theatre this evening, All
members of the party should be on
hand, and express their opinion in
regard to the nomination of delegates.
lp Chief Engineer.
“ The Board of Fire Delegates will
meet .on Saturday evening to approve
the lists of voters who are entitled
to vote for Chief Engineer of the Department. The election will tak
place on Monday next, and the polls,
will be open at the City Marshal's
office from 5 to 8 o’clock, p. u.
A Salate.
A letter from Arizona, City, Arizona
Territory, received here, dated J uly
10th, says a salute of twenty-five
§uns was fired at that place on the
receipt of the newsof the Republican
nominations for this State and DisThe Raflroad Case.
In the case against the Railroad
Company for the collection of taxes,
the argument was concluded and
twenty days were given to file briefs
in the case.

The Omaha Lottery.
To-day is the last chance to buy
tickets in the Omaha, Nebraska, Gift
Enterprise, as the drawing is advertised to take place positively on the
lst day of August.
Faux or a Cuurcn.—The M. E.
Church at Virginia City which cost
$75,000 fell with a terrible crash, on
Saturday night. The Enterprise speaking of the accident says:
It is said the walls of the church
were badly cracked by the last heavy
earthquake, and the supposition is
that they were pushed out by the
weight of the roof settling upon them;
others are decidedly of the opinion
that there was an explosion of .some
kind in the building. Very many
Persons are quite sure that the building was blown up—that something
was exploded within it—and we understand that some man has been ararrested on suspicion of having caused
the explosion; but had this been the
case, a sudden and heavy report, followed by the sound of the falling walls
must have been heard. .

the preparations intended thus to refresh,

is none that will compare with Hostetter’s
Celebrated Stomach Bitters. They have
been weighed in the balance of experience
and not found wanting; have been reconimended from the first as a great medicinal
specific, not as a beverage, and in spite of
interested opposition from innumerable
quarters, stand, after a twenty years trial,
at the head of all proprietary medicines intended for the prevention and cure of all
ordinary complaints of the stomach, the
liver, the bowels, and the nerves. In the
unhealthy districts bordering the great
rivers of California, Hostetter’s Stomach
Bitters may be classed as the standard one
for every species of intermittent or remittent fever. The people who inhabit those
districts. place the most implicit confidence

PAIN KILLER.
PERRY DAVIS & SON,
PROVIDENCE, BR. I.,
PROPRIETORS,
1840. 1871.
The “‘ Parn KILLER” may justly be styled
the great medicine of the world, for there
is no region of the globe into which it has
not found its way, and been largely used
and highly prized. Moreover, there is no
clime to which it has not provcd to be well
adapted for the cure of a considerable variety of diseases; it isa speedy and safe
remedy for burns, scalds, cuts, bruises,
wounds, and various other injuries, as well
as for dysentery, diarrhea, and bowel complaints generelly, it is admirably suited for
every race of men on the face of the globe.
It is a very significant fact, that prridegerea
standing the 1 period of ycars that tho
‘Pain Killer = hee been befere the world,
it has nevcr lost one whit of its popularity,
but, on the contrary, the call for it has
steadily increased from its first discovery‘
and at no previous time has the demand for
it been so great, or the quantity made been
so large, a6 to-day.
Aucther si cant fact is, that nowhere
has the Pain Killer ever been in higher repute, or been more generally used by families and individuals, then it has been here
That the Pain Killer will continue to be, what we have styled it, THE
GREAT MEDICINE OF THE WORLD, there can
not be the shadow of a doubt.—/[ Providence
Advertiser.
