our citizens yesterday morning as they arose
for the duties of the day, strack ® pang to
every heart, for they knew that some man,
dear in the affections ofthe people, had fallen.

of his campaign io Mexico. The evening
was spent with great apparent pleasure to
himself and to the great edification and enjoyment of his friends who listened to his
modest and nmiable discourse, At about
midnight he went home, and paseed through
the house. Mrs. Collins discovered hia absence at an early morning hour. At about the
