Spence. i Jonathan Clark. erences THe Monroe Docratre.—The ‘sores hends are endeavoring te make capital out of the Monroe Doctrine, but in this they will totally fail. The matter is in the hands of the Notiesal Government, and it will uns doubtedly be settled in such a manner as will satisfy every friend ef the nation. We doubt if ten men can be found in the county who are opposed to the enforcement of tle Monroe Doctrine. It is therefore prepos, sterous to attempt to make an issue upon a 1 question where the people of the nation aad the governmental authority are so united. But how do the balters of this couuty propose te enfcree this part of their platform 1 Dw they hold that Hawley, as District At‘torney of Nevada county will sue out a writ and that Kent, as Sheriff, will proceed to Mexico and disposess the French, or does Kent intend to remain in Nevada and order out the military as he did on the oecasion of the memorable attack by Allison Ranch upon the city? Do the bolters purpose to take this matter out’of the hands of Andy Jobnson and have it settled by the sn gacious Martin?’ Would’nt it be a good idea for them to send down their Coroner to hold an inquest and their Public Admuoistrator to scttle up the affuireof M@xico 1 We have no doubt that_their diplomacy would show that Seward isa mere pigmy _ and Johoson of no account when compared with the wise ones of this county who have assuaied the responsibility of enforeing the Montoe Doctrine. For. our part, withoat venturing to doubt, that, at the bare pre-. sentation of a writ, issued by Hawley and . served by Kent, the French army in Mexico-would be driven inte the Gulf, we are willing to trust: the Mexicun affairs, to the President, Secretary Seward and Congress. We do not believe there is any issue among the people of the subject. The Freneh Emperor is tired. of bis conquest and the. Aastrian Prioce will soon be too glad to. abandon’ thé country. Californiw or Neva-. da, county has no more power in the. mstter thao bas the Sandwich Islands, It is & question between the United States and France, and with full confidence in the ability and integrity of our national rulers the people are satisfied that the Moaroe Doetrive will be maintained by them withoutthe ardof the tolters in this eounty.— Thia enforcement of the Monroe Doctrine by the bolters, reminds us of a little story. During the straggle in the Crimea a member of the Cakifornta Legislature arose in his place and said: “Mi, Speaker— War, pestilence and famine are tha great scourges of of the human race. But wer is the worst ofall. Latmafriend to pense and am willing to do any thing. in my. power to settle difficulties. 1 therefore move to refer the troubles between Russia and the Western Powers ,ta:the Commiitee en Military At. faire for prompt settlement.” We suppose thet if a bulter’s representatives should ever get intu the Legislature, whieh is not likely, that the Monroe Doctrine would. be disposed of ae was the Russian war iw the above speech. — THe. Gazette 14 temtkably fond of china questions, but when it cumes to nnswering, the “shoe ‘is ow the other tout.” How about that refueal.of Gea. Evans.to allow his;pame to be used ‘by the sore heads ?— Haw the Gazette heard of the lettera written to the chairman of the committee ? It is thought the Atlastic eable will be completed by next Monday. Saori eseplanpeaiccacsees Cavuent OutT.—Senstor Conness claimed the credit of establishing a line of steam< ships between China and San Francisco in bie speech at Pleterville. He said that the bill which Mr. Cole’ offered. “Sleeps the sleep that knows’ he waking, in the comwit~ tee of which he wagamember.” Mr. Con ness did not expect. that speech to be pyblished or he would probably never have made. any such statement. Mr. Cole has written a letter to the Mirror, in which he gives a history of the bill, showing that Conness had no part in securing the passage of it. The bill was passed as Cole offered it. with but two immaterial changes. The Chairman of the Committee on Post Offices and Post Roads, ssys Mr. Cole first introduced the measure and ‘had been unwearied in his exertions to get it through.” Mr. Colfax says that Cule, not withstanding the oppo» sition of the majority of members at the outset, secured the passage of the bill, and yet Conness has the assurance to getup before an audience and say a portion of the press “made a contemptible, lying state~ ment” that the credit of the bill belonged . to Cole, Our or Tuvt.—The ‘soreshead organ is evidently out of tune. Exch morning we are treated to discordant notes. Now; the grinder lashes himself into fury and attempts, to imitate the roar of a lion, but his failure is palpable. He réalizes that his pondrous ears and asinine braying betray -hie real charac. ter end under the cenviction becomes, vccasionally, ‘calm as summer’ 8 evenings are.”’ ‘He is “worried to death’ because we do not devote all our time ‘to the denuneiation of Alpine bolters. We dou’t blame hit, but ut the same time we wéuld rather attend to the “bolters”. in, this. .county. We know it would please the scribbler if we could be diverted trom the real point te discuss personal matters, but we have a way of our own and will probably follow it, giving now and then 8 little ‘‘shot” just to see how the ers like their own warfare. We advise Kent, Hawley & Co. to have their “instrument’? tiined, so that even if the notes are not characterised by deceney they may be concordant. EF Gen. Rrnns. whose name was put on the bolter’s ticket, for Assembly, without his. knowledge or consent, and who says that ‘he made the. fight atthe—primaries-and was fairly beaten and_soidl support the Regular Unier Ticket, te « man,’ has written to the bolters, twice, to take his name off of their ticket.
