Company more than fulfilled public expectation by their production on Friday evening of ‘‘The Galley Slave.” Thatis saying a great deal, because’ much is expected from companies headed by artistes who have so long held.a front place inthe profession as. haye Mr. Morrison and his.wife. ‘The that abounds in thrilling and sen-’ interwoven with bright ‘lines of; urally finds favor with the mason is given excellent opportunity in the part of “Sidney Norcott,’’ the poor (but of course honest) artist, to display his ability. It is a part that would be over-drawn by less careful ‘and discriminating actors, but he brings out all. the beauties it_ contains without indulging in any exaggeration. Rose Wood has not before appeared here, and there are many characters in her repertoire that. are much hetter calculated to please the masses than is the wierd part Yet so skillfully did she portcay the emotions of the wronged wife and devoted imother that it at once: became. apparent she is fairly entitled to the histrionic fame she has won. Every emotion was truly depicted, every line read with the best possible effect.. All the oth‘er ladies and gentlemen in the troupe interpreted their roles in a manner that proved them worthy to occupy placesin a first-class combination, in fact they go to make up one of the strongest that has visited this city at any time. There are several old-time faverites among them. -~¥esterday afternoon.a—matinee . performance of ‘‘Hazel Kirke’’ was given with the same thoroughness and strength-of caste that distinguished the opening performance. Last evening the engagement closed with ‘‘May Blossom.” We believe that’ Mr. Morzison and his people feel gratified with ed them and the. liberal manner in which they have been patronized, for they have been greeted by large and appreciative audiences on the occasion of each appearance. Our citizens have certiinly enjoyed their entertainments to the fullest extent, and sincerely hope they will come again soon. rn RB Yesterday’s Fire Alarm. —— The fire alarm at noon yesterday was given by some small boys who saw a Cense volume of smoke emerging from the chimney of Robert Bell’s house on Boulder street near Marsh’s luniber yard, whereupon they rushed off and set the bells to ringing without ‘first ascertaining if there was any necessity for so doing. There was no fire at the house, excepting the fire in the stove. The firemen took. their hose carts as far as the Plaza before finding out the alarm was a false one.ee Something Worth Seeing: Have you ever seen the panorama of the battle of Waterloo? If you never have it will pay you to make a special trip to San Francisco for that purpose. It is the most deceptive painting we have ever looked upon; @ description of ‘which is beyond the capacity of our pen. { Any person visiting San Francisco who fails to see this panorama misses a chance to behold one of the greatest works of art of modern times. > The Chosen Friends.
