There were forty-uine commissioned officers. ss —————_ OvuGHT To BE RemoveD.—The Indians _wuo are living near Murrill's raneh, about-a mile from ‘towa, are getting to be a great puisance:Severalcomplaiuts have been made lately of their depredations on the orchards and gardens in this vicinity, — Watching their opportynity when the male portion of the family are absent, they boldly enter the eoelosures and help themselves to whatever they please. When ordered off by the female occupants, they tauntingly laugh aud draw their bows and arrows, causing the lady, whoever sbe may be, to beat a hasty rétreat. Nor are these petty acts of robbery all that is complained of. “Cows have been found with arrows sticking in them, from the effect of which one is known. te bave died. Culves have been missed in that vicinity, norcan any traces of them be discovered. Unless something is done soon: by those having authority; to prevent such outrageous proceedings, “forbearance. wil! cease to be a virtue,” and some fine morning we may expect to hear of a “dead injin”’ or two inthat vicinity. Threats to that ef. fect have been made, but we would suggest to our ranching friends ta use all lawful means to bave the Indians removed tothe reservation, where they belong, before putting their threate into effect — No SERViCE.— We tre requested to atate that in consequence of the absence of the Pastor, thefe will be no service in the Congregational Church on next Sunday. ‘ ReEaDINGS aT GkaSs VALLEY.—Mrs. Grantley, an accomplished elocutionist. who has given a series of readings in this eity, will give an entertainment at Graes Valley on Saturday evening next. A TRAITOR AT LarGe.—A dispatch has been received in San Franeieco, announcing the escape of Ridgely Greathouse, one of the Chapman pirates, from Fort Lafayette, and his flight into Canada. Tae “Camanche” is to be enclosed during her construction and an admission fee will be charged for the privilege of seeing her in different stages towards completion. The results of the exhibition will be contributed to the Sanitary Fund. GENERAL McDowell issues a general order, requiring all passengers and baggage per Panama steamers, to ve vigotously searched for arms to prevent the possibility of Secessionists captering a steamer. an?
