NEVADA CITY, CAL,
LOCAL AFFAIRS,
Fire at Truckee,
We learn the town of Truckee was
wisted on Thursday night by another
destructive fire-—the third withia a
year. It originated in the saloen of
Louis Derr, No. 28 Front Street, and
burned the lower end of the tewan as
far as the residence of Judge TC
Plunkett. Some fifty buildings were
‘destroyed. We have béen unable to
obtain further particulars. The people of Truckee have been unfortunate. By two fires the entire business portion of the town was destroyed, and in the last fire a number of
the residences were destroyed,
Since the above was in type we
learn that every house on Front street
except Sisson & Wallace, Burkhalter,
and Morris’ & Weller’s was destroyed.
All of Church street to the Methodist
Church, and all of Bridge street.—
Among the buildings destroyed were
the Odd Fellows{and Masonic Hall,
Turner’s’ Hall, the public school
house and the Post Office. Judge
Murray, Seth Martin, Robert Bell,
land Wm. Hurd are among the losers.
It ig supposed to have been set on

which amount, less commissions,
had been paid inte the City Treasury.

$101 70. An ordinance was presented amending the ordinance _regulat“ing the issue of licenses. It provides
that the license for keeping billiard
tables, bagatelle tables, etc., shall be
$3 a quarter, instead of $5, as now
charged; and that the license for
selling liquor by the glass ay be

billiard tables received the unaniious assent of the Board and the .
at that rate for the eurrent quarter:
There being a difference uf opinion
as to the reduction of saloon licenses,
the matter was laid over until the

this city to-day, from 1 to 6 o'clock,
to decide whether the brick school
house and lot on Nevada street shall
be sold for $1,000. We understand
the Trustees propose to expend the
amount on repairs on the new building if the sale is sustained. There
is, however, some opposition on the
ground that additional school room
will soon be needed by the district.
V The Caucus im Grass Valley.
On Thursday evening a Union Republican Caucus, was held at Grass
Valley to select aticket for the primaries at that place to-day. The following persons were nominated as
the caucus ticket: L. J. Roland, A.
Stoddard, Frank Beatty, B. B. Layton, J. P. Stone, Wm. Moorehouse,
M. C. Taylor, M. W. Ross, 8. H.
Dille, John Bennett.
Child Drowned.
Gu Thursday evening Shirley Tisdale, a son of W. J. Tisdale of
Moore’s F.at, was drowned in a reservoir, while bathing with some other
boys. Shirley, who is about 11 or 12
years of age, was playing with his
associates when one of them gave
hima slight push, in play, and he
sank. Itis supposed as the water
was running out of the gate at the
time, that he was drawn under by
the suction. When his body was
recovered life was extinct.

interested opposition from innumerable
quarters, stand, after a twenty years trial,
at the head of all proprietary medicines intended for the prevention and cure of all
ordinary complaints of the stomach, the
liver, the bowels, and the nerves. In the
unhealthy districts bordering the great
rivers of California, Hostetter’s Stomach

for every species of intermittent or remittent fever. The people who inhabit those

PAIN KILLER.
PERRY DAVIS & SON,
PROVIDENCE, R. I.,
PROPRIETORS.
1840. & 1871.
The ‘‘ Parn KInLER” may justly be styled
the great medicine of the world, for there
is no region of the globe into which it has
not found its way, and been largely used
and. hignly prized. Moreover, there is no
clime to which it has not proved to be well
adapted for the cure of a considerable variety of diseases; it isa speedy and safe
remedy for burns, scalds, cuts, bruises,
wounds, and various other injuries, as well
as for dysentery, diarrhea, and bowel complaints generally, it is admirably suited for
every rave of ien on the face of the globe.
It is a very significant tact, that notwithing'tue long period of ycars that tha
“Pain Killer” has been befere the world,
it has never lost one wiit of its popularity,
but, on the contrary, the call for it has
steadily increased: trun ite first discovery‘
and at no preyious time has the dgmand tor
it been so great, or the quantity made been
80 lurge, as to-day.
Another significant tact is, that nowhere
has the Pain Killer ever been in higher reute, or been more generally used by famiies and individuals, than it has been here
at home, waere it was first discovered and
tinue to be, what we have styled it, THE
GREAT MEDICINE OF THB WORLD, there can
ut be the suaiow of a doubt.—. Providence

O the Bone, the blood furnishes the elements of bone with unerring accuracy;
to Muscle, the same blood furnishes the elements of muscle; to Nerve the elements of

while each of these differ somewhat in composition from the other, the constituent elements of thé blood, by which they are everywhere furnished, are evérywhere the same;
