It is prob. able that he will receive no official no tice of his nomination, the managers of the Sacramento mustang Convention ‘well knowing that such. action would call forth a declination from Bidwell, but ‘we cannot see what difference-there is remaining quiet while his name is used asthe leader of a movement to divide the Union party. He cannot afford to remain dumb as a “sheep before her ~@earers,” while his. professed friends, but really. his worst enemies, shear him ofall the reputation he has wor, and Arop him after election so low down that-a life service will never raise him to respectability in politics again. If Bidwell believes, as he is ‘Stated in a “Marysville letter, that the Union party should be united, his only honorable course is to come out boldly, wash his hands of all connection with the mal‘contents and give his adherence to the Wnion party. Any other course will ‘compel those who have been his best friends to take sides against him, and if defeat should follow, loyal men of the ‘State will hold him responsible for it. A BENEFIT To THE PaRTy.—The action of the late Sacramento Convention hag benefited instead of injuring the Union Party, and its movers have: secured a result which they never desir. ed. Itis true that a few men of the ‘party who did not like thé State nominations, had a vague hope that ‘gome popular movement would be made, and such’a division result as would give ehances of success to a new candidate. These men looked anxiously to the Sacramento Convention, but it failed in the desired result, and they are now hear. tily supporting the ticket. The Sacramento movement has benefited the ticket in that it has shown such men as ‘we have named, the futility of any attempt to draw support from the regular affection was not nearly so wide spread as claimed. Bidwell has refused to bef those who took the lead in the move. ment will support the regular ticket. _ JurF. Davis. has accepted a star enfora few weeks this Summer tributed to catch the gold, nomination. They areundoubtedly becoming despondent, but-from another cause: The last Convention was a complete “fizzle” without the power to divide the Union strength, and in the determination of loyal men to support the regular nominees, the hopes of the Democracy are dashed. It ig the failare of those who sought to “reconstruct” the ticket which has elongated the countenances of Democratic leaders. In the failure to divide the Union vote they read the certain’ — of their party. Tux Next GOVERNOR. —The insinuation that Mr. Gorham, however. his record may recommend him, is now “in bad hands,” will not have weight with those who know his pride of character, honesty of. purpose, and strength of “will” He has given sufficient proof, says the Times, that he regards his honor as in his own keeping, and that no act of hig shall gully either his own fame or the reputation.ef the Union party.— That he will be eleeted Governor of California on the 4th of September next, every day but adds cheering and abundant assurance. And surely-no Republican should wish a different result, in view of the nature of the contest ‘and the important national interests in, volved. A VALUABLE Ming.—The Blue Gravel claim at Smaiteville, says the Commer cial Herald and Market Review, is a specimen of minesin Yuba. This claim contains upwards of one hundred acres, averaging one hundred feet froni-surface to bed-rock. Upward of $1,000,000 have been taken from it, though it was not opened till March, 1864. It occupied nine years of incessant labor, and the expenditure of upward of $100,000, to.open it. It has four miles of sluices, three feet wide and three feet deep, in which three tons of quicksilver is dis. 125,000 pounds of gunpowder are annually expended in blowing up and breaking the cement where it is too hard for the hydraulic to wash. The water used in washing costs $25,000 per annom. Tae Tipe TuRNING.—A great revolution is now going on in this. county, so we learn from gentlemen from nearly every precinct. The Union and Bul letin have said enough to make peop.e open their eyes. The former’s opinions have heretofore been regarded as law and gospel, butnow thingsseem changed and epithets loud and deep are heard against that institution. GEN. BIDwELL DECLINES. —A private . letter was received in this city, says the . Marysville Appeal, on Friday evening from Gen. Bidwell, in which he states his nomination for Governor, but that when received he would most respectfully decline, In QUARANTINE.—By telegrams to the Bay papers we learn that the P. M 8. 8. Co’s steamer Rising Star, was quarantined in New York on account of several cases of yellow fever aboard, which was prevalent at Aspinwall and Panama. re Great. InNFLUENCE.—A_ genileman informs us that he saw a placard ona squaw, near one of the Digger Indian campoodies, upon which was the folluwing: “Sacramento Union and my can. didate for Governor, John Bidwell.”— Verily the influence of :the Union my no bounds, SrerRa VaLLEy.—The Si uhoclihe of farm hands at ‘Bierra “Valley, andwaged have advanced to fifty and sixty . 9 were Aiagiiadent over the i ealestica well, because it lessenéd thé of Haight.” It is astonishing that such: ridiculous stuff should find its ‘way into the columns of a paper making pretence of respectability. Every man of ‘common sense knows that if the Union . strength is divided, the chances of the + . Democracy is increased, and every manwho-has observed the present political . + . contest knows'thit the Democracy have }been ‘elated with the prospect of a third . that he had received no official notice of . 's break down that loyal paper, the American Flag, and their persecutions have known no bounds. They say, give us McCarthy in preference to Gelwicks, and as to Jefferis he will not find men enough to-vote for him ee a Te. spectable eure ‘ _ _Hapvestixc.—The farmers in Napa Valley are generally taking in their grain. The Reporter says the yield is not an average ore, on in no case have we heard ofa failure. . THE Oakland News goes into mourning for Judge Norman Watson) an e8timable man, who expired in Oakland on. Tuesday evening, aged 65 years ~ Quick Time. —~Passengers can go through now from San Francisco to Owyhe, Idaho Territory, in five days, via Sacramento and the Railroad to THE Napa Valley. Railroad is now completed to Yountville. Last Wednesday a large number of the citizens. rode-out to within a mile of that place, and the work is pushed forward daily. Curious Casz.—Robert Ottatson died in Springfield, Pa., last month. He had been insane for thirty years, but recevered his senses on his death bed,and conversed intelligently of occurrences that transpired the day and’ week previous to his insanity; making inquiries about his oxen, the work on the farm, and old neighbors who had been dead for years. The intervening space wasa perfect blank in his memory. So NTHE rails for “laying” the Colorado Central Railroad are bought and paid for. Soa, road to Denver from the Missouri river, and so up to Black Hawk and Central City, is a fixed fact—of prophesy. ‘ THE flag of the new dominion of Canada will retain the British ‘Union jack in the corner, and the remainder will be filled with four stripes; red, white, provinces, which used to be. TALKATIVENESS is a ground of divoree in. China. THE public has long felt the want of a Sewing Machine which should combine in a form most suitable for the family all the superior excellencies which the “Singer” Machine confessedly oor for the manufactory. Such a achine, after’ the expenditure of an immense amount of money and time, we now announce, unhesitatingly, has been produced by this Com y—a Machine, which for grace sm Sy tot of finish, t range of work, ease, rapidity, and quietness of action, simplicity of construction, great strength and durability,is destined to supersede much of the trash which is now imposed upon the public.—V.
