He hes every spare hollow and barn with an unhealthy lustre ; hie wakiog actions are singular, and his sleep is alwayé distreseed. It is rumored that he thioks, in his sober moments, of abdication ; but it is met probable that he will leave the throne. until some of Mr. Home's ghostly visitants frighten him from it. On leaving Ems, which is one of his favorite’ resorts, he is said to. have prophesied that he should never visit it again, and he denbied his usual “largess” to the poor. The Russian prints deny that he is suffering, but well infornied Frénch jodruals do not hesitate te say that he is insane. Ode of his curious freaks of fancy is that he . ia constantly attended by the spirits of a brace of dead friends. . Spercr or King Wittiam.—At the opening of the Gernixn Reichstadt, on the 20th, the King of Prussia made a lengthy address, He said Prussia had no interest in tlie Prioce of Hoheuzoliern, except’ ithoped his withdrawal from his candidacy.for the throne of Spain might cause peace between heretofore friendly powers; but the Emperor of France bad found the Prince a convenient casus belli which had no precedent in diplomacy. The Emperor in the discussion acted as if he regarded Prassia 30 weak that he could compel submission to his demands or safely go to war, calculating confidently on presumed Prussian weakness and French strength. Prussia resents the dictatorial language and insalts which the Emperor bad indulged in the pursuit of his selfish interests. Himeelf. as the father of the Prassian people was called them by a foreiga conqueror. Tus MovemeNr Sraeeapinc—The whole country bids fair to follow’ the example of lilincie cn the question of . minority representation. A eall has been issued by the Repablican State Convention of delegates from counties in which the Reépablican party is in the minority, witha view to procuring legislation favorable to minority repre cory gaa weenie "hh tailine States, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Ilinois in providing for the representa. tion of minorities and majorities in proportion to their numbers. It is not likely that he will be allowed to wander about where the fight is thickest, or that he will be called upon to ‘ead a forlorn hope or mount the deadly breach unless such enterprises coald be arranged with a special guaranty of his sefety. Certainly. that tacitarn Lieutenant of Artillery, who founded the dynasty to which he belongs, did not have an opportunity to stady. the art of war so-comfortably and with soJittle risk to himeelf. PerririeD Trees.—A number of petrified trees, on a bill near Calistoga, were. lately examined by a geoclogist,. who came to the conclusion that they were petrified while standing. His reason fer this singular conclusion is that one of them, about twenty feet long and six inches in diameter, is broken square off in several places ; and as there were ao splinters, he thinks it must have been broken by the fall and after tue tree was petrifi¢d. We should take it to be far more reasonable that the tree had fallen and been covered with earth when the petrifaction took place, and afterward was broken by an earthquake or some other agency. According to. our idea, it would be impcssible for a tree to petrify except it wes faction is caused by the gradual displacement of the woud by the miner) substances held im solution in water, which solidifies as the the wood decays. Hanw Srnause, the well known Vienmese music conductor, has been shockingly beaten by some Ruesian officers
