Railroad Tathe
Ve believe that Nevada county
has the ability.to-seeure a ‘railroad
connécting With the ‘tiarkets, Such
_u road could be built t6. Auburn in,
say. thinty miles. Seyénto eight
niles’of the -roud: would-be in Placer
county, leaving twenty;two in Nevada, just the distance'6f the stryey to
Colfax.We ane told the country
between Nevada and’ Grass’ Valley,
and Auburn, is: more favorable
than any other for such a road; that
a road coukd -berun-almost ina}
straight line, { du-—exeellent
crossing of B river could be secured, We Sichises the people of
Auburn will willingly unite i the
_eonstruction of & ‘road whieh will
mike their town the depot of the
trade and travel of Nevada @ county.
. ‘This road would passthrough a good
country and would ‘seeure considerable way business.. We believe, in
fact we have irfformation, that considerable help for the construction of
such a road ean be secured outside
of Nevada county, andwith the active and earnest co-operation of our
eitizens we believe a road can be put
in operation in less than: twelve
months, Let our citizens begin to
talk railroad and be ready to act railroad whenever the favorable epportunity occurs, anid the thing can'be
accomplished, Greater schemes have
~beén carried out by smaller communities edniprised of less energetic
and public spirited citizens. Why .
-shoald' Nevada and Grass Valley be
behind ‘in the enterprise necessary
for the progress and prosperity of
the two towns. “Let the people of
both places work and act in unison, }
and the benefits resulting from such
a road ‘Will be mutual.

The Board of Equalization held an
evening session on Saturday night,
until 10 o’clock and have completed:
their work within the time required
by law, The Boatd have been in

The workmen are making rapid
progfess on the Odd Fellows Hall
building. The heavy timbers were
being put in place yesterday) and
the bricklayers are doing first rate
work.
If people who settle mertgages
would satisfy them, or the County
Records, they would not receive notices every year and be compelled to
come to the county seat to keep them
from being taxed. oD
We notice sigar pine lumber on the
way to the markets below, from Snow
Point. “This lumber is equal to any
in the State and with a railroad could
be got to market better and cheaper,
