Speaking of the Republican_primary in this city, the Grass Valley
Union says: “We were not aware
"that the railroad or Sargent had anything to do with: that primary.”
The Grass~ Valley Union is right.
The statement to the contrary was
made bythe Sacramento Union out
of whole cloth, and the delegates on
the unsuceessful ticket consider that
the statement of the Sacramento Union was unjust aid slanderous, ~~

have been prepared for the working
forces, and the road frem Cisco to
the camp repaired for transportation
ef freight. There are now about
twenty men at’ the camp, and this
force will soon be largely increased,
and as "many will be employed as
can find room to work. The ovject
is to complete the dam for the next
season’s water, if possible. When
the work is done thé entire valley
will be turned into an immense lake,
probably the largest artificial lake in
the world. This will, even in the
_ dryest season, enable the South Yuba
Company to fully supply the demayd
for water for mining purposes. _
Railroad Taxes. ok
The application of the railroad
company for a reduction of their assessment on the railroad from $12,000 to $6,000 per'mile, will come up
for hearing before the Board of
Equalization on next Monday, at 10
o’clock,. Judge McFarland will appear for the Company, and District
Attorney Deal for the people. The
application-of the Company is based
upon the affidavit of E. B. Ryan,
agent of the Railroad, declaring that
the value of the railroad in this
county is not more than $6,000 per
mile.

The Wear and Tear of hife.
The # cares, anxieties and ‘misfortunes
of life have as much to do with shortening
if asdisease. They are in fact the source
of many ailments and physical disabilities.
Neryons weakness, dyspepsia, affections of
the liver, disturbances of the bowelé, head=
aches, hypochondria and monomania are
among these distressing fruits. It is,therefore, ‘of great importance that ‘persons
whose minds are oppressed with heavy business responsibilities, or harassed with
family troubles, or excited by speculation,
or perplexed by a multiplicity of enterprises, or in any way overtaxed or overworked, should keep up their stamina by
the daily use of a wholesome tonic. Thousends of persons thus circumstanced are
endbled to bear; up against the difficulties
in which they are involved, and to-retain
their strength, health and mental clearness,
by the regular use of Hostetter’s Stemach
Bitters. Diseases which are prone 'to at‘tack the body when debilitated and broken
down by over-much brain-work, or exhausting physical labor, are kept at bay by the
resistant power with which this incompar‘able tonic endows the nervous system and
the vital organs. At this season, when the
heat is evaporating the elements of strength
froma every pore, an invigorant 1s absolutely
essential to the safety and comfort of the
public, and is required even by the more
robust if they desire to keep their athletic
cgpabilitiesin status quo. Hence a course
of Hostetter's Bitters is particularly useful
at this period of the year as a defence
against the invisible disease afloat in a sultry atmosphere. It is the most, potent o
all preventive medicines, and for all complaints which affect the stomach, the liver
and the bowels, and interfere with the perfect digestion and assimilation of food, it
is the standard remedy.
