very near being killed. When the
train-was near the powder works, at
Gold Flat, the engineer espied « cow

track. She was discovered in time
to save herself, bat the engineer was
the cow her own time to getup aud
leave. The people in that vicinity
who own cows should take cure of
their animals, and ae that they are
not loafing on the tr.ck. The rnilcan do in the wuy of fencing aud
putting in ‘‘ca:tle guards,’’ and owners of cattle ought to ut least do
something towurds protecting the
lives of their animals.
