The introduction of Carter’s Brass
Band into a skating rink on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, by
Mr. Bullard, is quite a feature.” Beides making it ‘more lively-for'skathottisches, waltzes, etc.,
with which eavh evening's eukartaie
ment concludes.
We stated that motiey vauld be got
for a railroad. "The Grass» ‘Valley
Union asks, ““Phen why isit not built”
simply. betause the pile is not big
enough. We know of many citizens
who stand ready to “‘put up’’. but
more are needed, and it ig therefore
necessary to keep on talking railroad:
Yesterday many residents of Grass
Valley were in this city, Among
them we noticed? Hon, Miles P.
©’Connor. We suppose they ave all
interested in the Grass Valley water
case. ae
The Chinaman arrested for steal. .
ing a cigar holder from Jack’s variety store, was yesterday tried and
acquitted.
The Republican primary election
wilt be held to-morrow afternoon,

Important Case. fi
The trial of the case of the Town
of Grass Valley against the Grass
Valley Water, Company, conmmenced
in the District Court before Judge
Reardan yesterday. The suit is
brought to set aside the contract, on
_ the ground that it was procured by
fraud, the members of the Water
Company being at the time of the
making of the contract City Trustees,
and that they entered into a conspiracy for this purpose. We also believe a breach of the:contract is alleged, in that the company failed to
supply the water required by the
city. Dibble & Byrne appear. for
the plaintiffs and Judge Searls and
Williams & Johnson for the defense,
A large number of citizens of Grass
Valley are witnesses. The case will
probably last to the end of this
‘week.
Recorder’s Office,
The following instruments were
filed for record in the County Re-.
corder’s office, yesterday:
Deed—Wm. Carpenter Administrator of Geo. W. Bristow to A.
Presley. .Land at Mooney Fiat,
Rough and Ready township $700.
Water Logation—A. Presley has

Grass Valley Items.
We clip the following from the
Grass Valley Union of Thuisday:
* "We gave notice yesterday morning
ofthe faneral of Mrs. Alice Martin
who was buried at 2 o'clock. In
answer to the call many friends assembled to pay the last tribute of
tespect to the deceased. The infant
vhild of the deceased, aged about
two weeks, and had been very sick
from its birth. Just as the corpse
was about to be taken from the house
the littlesufferer also breathed its
last. The funeral was thereby delayed for some tite. The adage
“Trouble comes -doutile,** applies
with peculiar emphasis, in this case.
The additional affliction falls heavily .
upon the sorely bereaved husband.
Hay is selling in this place for
about $20 a ton. The mountain
grown article brings the highest
price. The mountain hay this year
is most excellent in quality.
