BROWN & CALKINS. ' THURSDAY, JULY 31, 1884, : Ad OURNALISTIC TILT. The Sacramento Record-Union and» theBee are having a lively tilt about the circulation of their respective journals, Each is pouring hot sho! atthe other, and the Record-Un jon has given the Bee some hard blows. It is hardly fair fur the Rec: ord-Union to hit its opponent sv heavily under the belt, but yet everybody believes what that pape: # ys about the Bee, and disbelieves everything the latter s’yson account of ite long-continued misrepresentation of the hydraulic miners, _ Sc far asthe circulation of the two papera in this section is concerned, the Record-Uuion has fifty to the Bee’s one, as it should be, Since the decease of the Bee’s venerable editor, and the withdrawal of General Sheehan as business manager, the Bee ir of smallcalibre. The brains and good business management of the Bee seem to be a thing of the past. The Record-Union iu one of its articles in reply to the Bee says: The ples set up by our vontemporary that the size of ite “‘eack’ does not enable it to make its wage: more generous in amount, while it il. comports with its boast of broad circulation and extended business, ievidently intended as an intimation it receives no assistance outside ol business earnings. This comes wit! astonishing effrontery from a pepe: concerning which it is demonstrabl that ite “stack,” asit chooses to tern: its revenue, has been fed from extra neous sources, and concerning whic! fact the Bee will be the last to chal Lnge publicity, o or demand at on. hands the provts of the agsertion. We desire to call particular attention to the last sentence, which i: justa little ambigaous. Will th: Record-Union be kind enough to b somewhat moreexplicit and inform the people from what ‘extraneous sources” the Bee obtained its revenue ? Will the Bee submit quietly to th: insinuation, and “BE 1HE LAST TU CHALLENGE POBLICITY, OR DEMAND AT our [the Record-Union’s] HANDS Tus PROOFS OF THE ASSERTION” ? This it as direct a charge as could possibly be made. We wonder why the Bee does not dare to demand the provf: of it, We feel positive the Bee never got $1,000,000 form the antidebris attorneys to wage the wa . against the hydraulic ~ miners, and to keep the feeling up in the anti-deoris ranks in order: that they would contribute more coin for litigation, We cannot belive such ar insinuation, aud we therefore demaud (as the Bee evidently does not dar« to) of the Record-Union the ‘‘proof: of the assertion” that our friend habeen fattened ‘‘from extraneour sources.” SO, ASI ERR RES RD Tue Examiner says: ‘‘Mr. Blain+ should be careful. A heated cam. paign may bring on another sun atroke,” Your man Cleveland is it no such danger. Nothing in hi head to strike. He reminds us 0! the English. cockney going throug! an ingane asylum, and coming to th: celebrated Baptist preacher, D. Robinson, said: ‘Well, sir, what brought you here?” -‘‘What wil never bring you here,” was the read) reply, ‘too much brain, sir.” —————————E———E— a POWDER .
