Turner and John Hall, ef this ‘ity, have just returned ‘from the new mining District in the nortbern part of this county, and from them'we have ubtained reliable information ‘in regard to the mines.— Persons whe propose visiting the District ‘will find good roads from this city. Wagons an go by wey of the Henness Pass or up the Omega ridge, through Bear Valley and over the Pacific turnpike to Bowman’s.— ‘Phe latter is an excellent ronte for teams and for these who go on horseback and «foot ‘much nearer than any other. There is a tenil by which if. is only eleven miles from ‘Culberteon's bridge in Bear Valley te the vnew District. Ie the Excelsior District ‘two towns have been already laid out and named respectively Richville and Bridgeport. The site of the former is eust «¢ Meadow Lake, upon a beautiful slope, aiid about a quarter of a mile from Bridgeport. Hoyges are already being built in both plaoes. The country is well wooded and watered, containing excélient timber for building purposes, and unlimited water power.— . : Richville is so located that excellent water may be eonducted to the town from the, lakes at small expense. A mile and a quarter ‘from the town is Fordice Valley, affordiug excellent pasturage, andwilt, in. echorttime-supply the markets of the new mines with excellent vegetables. It was not until the enterprising prespectors from Virginia started westward in search ot treasure that the immense wealth of the Excelsior District was of men will soon be at work tuking guld from the very summits of the Sierras, and that the noise of machinery and thebuatle of mining towns will be-heard, where a month . . since seareely ahunter's cabin could be . found. The camp fires of prospectors may . . be seen thickly studddiag the hill sides at night and numbers of men are every duy enguged in sinking shafts or tracing ledges: No SLATE.—In ine Convention of sorebeads on Saturday, the men who igsued the call for a People’s Union Convention (7) managed the affair.
