Tus Excetsion District.—Andrew
Hasey, J.N. Turner and John Hall, ef this
‘ity, have just returned ‘from the new mining District in the nortbern part of this
county, and from them'we have ubtained reliable information ‘in regard to the mines.—
Persons whe propose visiting the District
‘will find good roads from this city. Wagons
an go by wey of the Henness Pass or up
the Omega ridge, through Bear Valley and
over the Pacific turnpike to Bowman’s.—
‘Phe latter is an excellent ronte for teams
and for these who go on horseback and «foot
‘much nearer than any other. There is a
tenil by which if. is only eleven miles from
‘Culberteon's bridge in Bear Valley te the
vnew District. Ie the Excelsior District
‘two towns have been already laid out and
named respectively Richville and Bridgeport. The site of the former is eust «¢
Meadow Lake, upon a beautiful slope, aiid
about a quarter of a mile from Bridgeport.
Hoyges are already being built in both plaoes. The country is well wooded and watered, containing excélient timber for building
purposes, and unlimited water power.— . :
Richville is so located that excellent water
may be eonducted to the town from the,
lakes at small expense. A mile and a
quarter ‘from the town is Fordice Valley,
affordiug excellent pasturage, andwilt, in.
echorttime-supply the markets of the new
mines with excellent vegetables. Where
the sites of these tuwns have been located
‘the anow dis»ppears the first of March.—
The gentlemen who composed the party
from ‘this place found the ledges numervus
and very large aad they pronounce them the
riqhest they have jyet seen injthe country .—
Where the surface is rocky the leads can be
easily traced, but Where the timber is thick
and the svil deep the ledg-s disappear. —
They are,*in the District proper, composed
, mostly ofa kind of black rock, which: bas

from the very summits of the Sierras, and
that the noise of machinery and thebuatle of

No SLATE.—In ine Convention of sorebeads on Saturday, the men who igsued the
call for a People’s Union Convention (7)
managed the affair. Thev fixed upon the
nominating committee to suit them, and

GUILTY.— ‘1 be “suppressed testimony” in
the assassination case is published in the
Union of yesterday. Itshuws conclusively
that the murder of Abrahain Lincoln, and
the attemptupon the lives of Seeretary Seward, Stanton, Vice President Johnson and
General Grant was “ineited, concerted and
procured” by Jeff Davis, Jucob Thompson,
Beverly Tucker, C. ©. Clay, George N.

been decided by Judge Clifford of the United States Supreme Court, that a man who
expressed his joy at the assassination of
President Lincotnis not fit to serve asa juror in the Courts of the United States, we
