GREENHORN Minz.—This promising
mine, says the Wafional, is located on
the Greenhorn Creek, about six wiles
northeast of Grass Valley, and has been
leased -by A. J: Cook, and other practical miners, for a term of five years
The present Jessees have only, beea,
working about three months, and’ during that time have had three clean-ups;
the poorest of which yielded at the rate
of $16 per ton, exclusive of sulphurets.
‘They are down 90 feet on the line of
the ledge, which bids at an angle of 56
dégrecs They have drifted about 50
feet, and all thus far taken out has. come
from the drifts, stoping not having'ss
yet been cotfitienced.Rock is now
being crushed at Laton’s mill at Union
Hill, which is paying $20 ton.
There is very little water in the mine.
All that comes in during 24 hours can
be drawn out by buckets in 15 minutes.
For the present, all the hoisting is done
With a windlass, by hand. Two men
have taken out 45 tons during the last
month, The ledge is now from:five to
seven feet in thickness. It is in con.
templation to efect steam hoisting
works and put up a ten ‘stamp mill in a
short time. The Greenhorn is an excellent mine, and we are glad to learn that
the lessees are being so well-zewarded
for their enterprise. A large. number
of locations have been made in the
vicinity, and without doubt.several
more paying mines will soon be developed in the neighborhood ef the Groenhorn.

ALLISON ° ‘Rance MiNE.—The National says work at this’ famous mine is
being dilligently prosecuted. The large
pumping engine is to be removed from
the south to the middle shaft. Exca~
vations for the foundation have been
made, and workmen are now laying the
stone. The new sixteen-inch Cornish
pump, now being made at Taylor’ 3
foundry, will be put in at the bob‘level.
The pamp will be completed in abouts . mi
week. Below this will be placed the
fourteensinch pump at present in use.
Each of tue howe, has’é'vertical: lift
of 160 feet.. With these pumps the
water can ‘easily be kept out. When
¢ . they sink for another level, a nine-inch .
drawing and lift pump will be put in.
The most of the water does not come
in at the bottom ef the mine, bat about
160 feet from the surface. Five cords
of wood per day will suffice to run the
©: pumping engine. Some very excellent
rock is now being taken out from that
portion of the mine known as the Cariold standard of the Allison Ranch ore-.
None has been crushed as yet.
