Excursionists to Donner Lake leave GREENHORN Minz.—This promising mine, says the Wafional, is located on the Greenhorn Creek, about six wiles northeast of Grass Valley, and has been leased -by A. J: Cook, and other practical miners, for a term of five years The present Jessees have only, beea, working about three months, and’ during that time have had three clean-ups; the poorest of which yielded at the rate of $16 per ton, exclusive of sulphurets. ‘They are down 90 feet on the line of the ledge, which bids at an angle of 56 dégrecs They have drifted about 50 feet, and all thus far taken out has. come from the drifts, stoping not having'ss yet been cotfitienced.Rock is now being crushed at Laton’s mill at Union Hill, which is paying $20 ton. There is very little water in the mine. All that comes in during 24 hours can be drawn out by buckets in 15 minutes. For the present, all the hoisting is done With a windlass, by hand. Two men have taken out 45 tons during the last month, The ledge is now from:five to seven feet in thickness. It is in con. templation to efect steam hoisting works and put up a ten ‘stamp mill in a short time. The Greenhorn is an excellent mine, and we are glad to learn that the lessees are being so well-zewarded for their enterprise. A large. number of locations have been made in the vicinity, and without doubt.several more paying mines will soon be developed in the neighborhood ef the Groenhorn. The large pumping engine is to be removed from the south to the middle shaft. Exca~ vations for the foundation have been made, and workmen are now laying the stone. The new sixteen-inch Cornish pump, now being made at Taylor’ 3 foundry, will be put in at the bob‘level. The pamp will be completed in abouts . mi week. Below this will be placed the fourteensinch pump at present in use. Each of tue howe, has’é'vertical: lift of 160 feet.. With these pumps the water can ‘easily be kept out. When ¢ . they sink for another level, a nine-inch . drawing and lift pump will be put in. The most of the water does not come in at the bottom ef the mine, bat about 160 feet from the surface. Five cords of wood per day will suffice to run the ©: pumping engine. Some very excellent
rock is now being taken out from that portion of the mine known as the Cariold standard of the Allison Ranch ore-. None has been crushed as yet. A ee ted F Home.
