warm conversation at the American
Hotel, where Mr. Ware's wife and
step-daughter reside, which resu'ted

the street in a highly excitable condition and asking-for. her husband.
A few moments later she returned to
her room, but in the meantime (while
she was on the street) Mr. Ware had

Postinaster Sykés of Grass Valley

his office without full letter’ postage
being paid on the same. He is the
only postmaster East or West, so
far as our experience goes, who appears ignorant of the fact that in
February, 1881, the act-of March/8d,
1879, was so. modified as to permit
“bills, receipts and orders for sub. scription” to be serit as ‘second-class
matter. Mr, Holbrook, the _postmaster at this city, says. the instractions from the Postmaster Generalare plain on the subject,. and the
Grass Valley office is the only ‘one
he knows of that» forces. the. public
to pay three prices on such stoff.
We ‘call Mr. Sykes’ attention to
what we regard-as his mistake,‘ and
nope that he will hold no. more of
our bi Js for first class rates until the
law changes. We don’t quite relish
being made the victims of that gentleman’s failure to keep posted.
