and will transfer the assessment book
to the City Trustees the latter part
of this week. The value of proper‘ty owned in this city, as assessed by
him, is as follows: Value of city:and

piece of improved real estate in the
city is assessed at $10,000. The
largest amount of money held by any
person or company is $16,900. The
largest amount of personal preperty
-owned by one citizen foots up to $13,400; the second largest’ being $13,325. Last year the total amount. of
assessments was $632,491, after the
Board of Equalization had reviewed
it, making a difference of about $7,000 in favor of this year.

Barglary at Grass Valley.
During Friday night a burglar or
burglars effected an entrance to the
dry goods store of Chas, Nathan &
Co., at Grass Valley, by digging a
hole through the brick wall of the
rear part of the store alongside of the
iron door. The tools used were’ a.
miner’s pick and cold chisel. After
digging out a hole in the wall next
the iron door the burglars were. enabledyo reach and turn the inside
iron bars, which held the doors, and
thus easily effected an entrance.
They turned over a few goods, but
plunder of that kind did not seem to
be their object, as nothing was miss~
