pow Laks Itzms.—We obtain the
lowing items of interest from the Meadow Lake Sun:
THE: Exceision ComPpany.—This comthe old works of their mill and remodeling
them. Mr. Mitchell, the Superintendent,
is doing all in his power to render the
amalgamating department thoroughly effective. They arenow getting out some
very fine rock, in much of which free gold
may be seen with the naked eye.
Repucine SutpHurets.—Jake Ford,
of the Snow-shoe Express, and Ed. Richardson, formerly an engineer at the Ex-.
celsior mill, are preparing to erect a furnace for reducing sulphurets found in the
mines of this. district.
Goop.—Two dollars and twenty cents
was obtained from one anda half pounds
of scrapings from the bottom of the Golden Eagle Company’s shaft.
Hiex Warer.—The Yuba river is now
very high. Horses are obliged to switg
part of the way across it in Fordyce Valley. Sleighs cannot cross at present.
Tux. charter election takes place at
Meadow Lake to-day.
TE Masons of Meadow Lake will give
@ grand. ball on the 24th,8t. John’s Day.
No Cause oF CoMPLAINT.—Democrats
are attempting to create dissatisfaction
with the Union County Convention, because Grass Valley has not. more. candidates on the ticket. That township has
the Collector, thie best county office, and
besides, a Senator ani Assemblyman.—
This is a very fair represention and will
at least satisfy the loyal men of that locality.io
’ Tue Seconp District ConvENTION.—
The Convention ‘of the Second Congressional District, was called to meet at Sacramento yesterday at 2 o’clock. The understanding. was that the Convention
should meet at 4 o'clock, and it was probably changed to advance the schemes of
some politicians, Dispatches were sent
in every direction, notifying delegates of
the change, and advising them to hasten
in.
NoMINATION FoR CoNnGREss.~-T. G.
Phelps has been nominated for Congress in
the. First District. Wilcox, who professed
to be the. Workingman’s candidate, having sold out his friends in the Convention,
Phelps is interested in extensive railroad
operations in the ‘Beuthern part of the
State.
