supposed that the weapon ased was
an iron bar which had beem taken
from a wagon-tire, as such an iustrument was foundnearby. <A negro
had beea around the place. all the
prévious day, and that evening, but
whether he had anyconnections with
the dastardly deed, is something
which time alone will determine,
Iiverything in connectien with the
affair weuld tend to prove that the
girls had been chloroformed and an
attempt made to outrage them; that
the chloroform administered was not
sufficient; that ‘one of the girls
awakened and that; fearing detection,
the hound or hounds broke in her
skal. Thatthe other girl was taken outside, there to be subjected to
the:r use, and that the same fate met
her, This suspicion is brought out
by the fact that only the girls’ room
had been entered, that nething was
stolen, that the bed and the clothing
showed sigus that such was probably
the motive, and that the night dress
of the yeung lady had been thrown
completely over her head.
It is not thought that there ie any
