. TUESDAY MORNING, JUVE 13, Hexoic Sacririces.—The leading men of Englind seem to be greatly exorsised by the events of the past few months. The vindietive hate whichhas characterised the acts of leading men of that nation bas suddenly giv66 way toa magnanimous feeling which. leads them to the opinion that the English government will consent to make “heroic sacrifices" for the sake of peace. The Uni--. ted States. government. has ever held that England was responsible tor the acts of the ~__ Alabama and vessels of her class which were built, manned and equipped under the neu. tral (1) British flag-and sent out upon their piratical missions against our commerce.— Lincoln persicted in this demand and only ashort time before bis death it was renewed. “President Johnson has again made the demand, instructing the American miuister at Londou to require of the English Government a prompt decision in regard to the matter. . The Memorial Diplomatique, thiisks _. that “the English government will hardly’ pertist in her negative, which would be fol~ Towed by bud tonsequénces, but will mike . this new sacrifice for peace, after having. made so many heroic sacrifices for the same . end during the past few years.” A Madrid paper concurs, adding that “apart from the justice of the American demands that are uttered -by.a powerful State, the Cabinet of St. James will always be found to nrake heroic sacrifices (!) in any conflict of their usual strength, reserving all terrors of ite traditional pride for difficulties with nations of inferior strength.” This last extract is / father severe upon England, but it is warranted by her course during the past, four years. While the civil strife was raging on ‘this continent and the issue was in doubt, English journals and statesmen, with» few honorable exceptions, daily denounced the Governmeit and lauded the rebels. Under the protection of the English flag Vessels were equipped, guns were manufactured and expeditions fitted out to aid the rebels. This was the conduct of that uation towards the ~ Government, until the rebels began to lose ground $ When England realized that rebellion was crushed and America had a sword to avenge the wrongs heaped upon her by foreign nations, and the Yankees were bound to make their cousins pay dumages, their purse strings were tousened and England reasized that “hervicsacrifices” could be made for the suke of peace. The Alabama and other rebel vessela fitted out in England have destroyed willions of property belonging to’citizens of the United States and England will have a very large bill to pay for the hand she hadin the matter. Before the war commenced the demand might have been indignantly rejected, but the power of our government has been fully tried during this war and the nation is stronger on ac. count of it. All nations of the old world will be exceedingly careful to avoid a war with a people who have shown themselves 80 powerful a <n Eastvren News.—The Amnesty Proclamation has brought a crowd of rebel politi cians to Washington to sue for merey.— Langstreet.ie among those applying for pardon His is regarded asa test cise. Howell Cobb is under arrest. Harris, of Maryland, was convicted by a Court Martial, and sentenced to imprisenment for three years and forfeiture’ of all civilrights. The President approved the Goding of the Court but remitted(1) the sen. tence. ‘ Charles O'Connor, the Secession lawyer of New York baa volunteered to defendJeff Davis. The. people of Alabayea and Georgia are asking for Military Governors. ~~ Buckner conducted the surrender of Kirby Swith's forces. Were: my object in presenting my name to the public merely my own personal success and promotion, this course would be a very safe one at the least, ‘but such is-not the case. I believe that the future gtcy of the Governpment in disposing of its mineral lands may lead to very serious evils unless the mineral regions shull be represented at Washingten some one conversant with inining and identitied with the mining interests, 1 think 4 i ‘ot Nevada ccunty that Mr. Sargent represent the mining ‘interest.’ of ‘thig: coast at Washington thau that I should &lJ the position of State Sénator. Without the support of the entire Legislative delégation of this county, Mr. Sargent's chances are worthless, and the personal friendship of a member of the State Senate would avail him nothing. From public an} wellas personal eousiderations I shallrender the ticket supporting Mr. Sargent all the assistance in miy power at the primaries and elsewhere, and should it fail, shall Tegard it us a defeat of myselfas of Mr. 8 My posifon tpon this matter 1s well understood in this ‘place. .To prevent “misapprehension elsewhere will you give this a plabage your columis, : ~ DAVID BELDEN. ~ Nevada, June 12th. °° ~ Who art Pro: cxieriosists.—The men who oppose Sargent in this county make all t»in votes, Among others we have one that. a slate has been. made up by Sargent and that he desires to distribute the offices to suit himself. We will ventaré the assertion large number of men among Sargent's friends who are candidates. It is not probable that 80 many wen could be traded off and betrayed by any man. Qn the other band, the “short hairs” have their bill made and a man and but one nan for each office. from Sheriff down to Coroner They are all work-. ing togetber and for each other, and they have roslate made, ob, no, they are magninimous and only desire tv numinate one eandidate for each office. Again, we have the removal of Norton of Grass Valley, Bean of Nevada and Dornin of San Juan, merely because they would not bow iu submission to the beck of Kent, Hawley and other Conness men in the county.— They don't call that proscription. They say that the terms of these men had expired. Doruin had held his office for more than nine years. They are all courteous and capable men. Bean of this city was toldsix months, ago that it he would be quiet he ight keep the office. He expressed Ins opinion and was therefore removed They were all old the Government, but they were not liked by a contemptible clique in this couaty and up: on such representations these good men were deprived of their positions, and the magnanimeus(?) fellows now boast that they have gotten these men out-of the way Such deeds should ferever close the mouth of the most shameless “short hair” in the county. Such dre the acts of the men who accuse Sirgent and his friends of being proscriptive, and such acta will meet with a just retributidn at the primaries in this county on Thursdiy next. ‘Wr heard an anti-Sargent man say that the “Central Committee committed a great outrage in tacking on a clause to the test to he used at the primaries, compelling every man who voted, to support the nominees of the Convention.” We havena doubt it will xo hard, but we believe in making every candidate come up and take it like a man. if there should be a bolter make bin break an outh, t# The Co inty Coin mittee xive notice that.the Primary Election will tuke place io tiis city of Thursdsy next.
