Yesterday morning abont 8 o'clock
Mr. Evstis, of .the firm of
Eustis & Schmidt, while engaged ‘in
delivering meat ‘to their customers,
drove up to the house of A. Lones,
on West Broad street, and went in,
leaving the team, standing by the
side of the road'‘unhitebed as was
the usual custom, While he was
absent, the avimals took fright, and
started down Broad street, at a wild
rate. They came down: the grade
like a whirlwind, gethering fresh
spedd at each jump. A& they reached Piue street, one of the horses
attempted toturn the corner. The
other, however, was ¢videut!y determined upon keeping Straight abead,
aud the result was that they swerved
from the center of the road just
enough’ to bring them in contact
with a corner iron post supporting

store, and it snapped like a pipestem. The near horse was stunned
by the concussion, andfell. The
