NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA,’
LOCAL INTELLIGENCH,.
ANOTHER VERSION.—There are several
yersions in regard to the circumstances
connected with the murder of Hennessy,
at Camp No. 20, onthe Pacific railroad,
near Donner Lake, by John Brannon prin-.
cipal, and Mary-Gallagher, accessory.—
The parties are to be arraigned te plead .
on Monday tiext. According to the Grass
Valley Union, the latest version of the at
fair is, “that Hennessy had beaten Bran.
pon, drove him into a creek, stoned’ him,
then Hennessy was fatally stabbed. The
story about Mrs. Gallagher striking Hennessy with a bottle after he was stabbed,
and remarking that he ought to have béen
killed long before, is also contradicted,—
We have no desire to influence public
opinion either in favor of or against Brannon or Mrs. Gallagher, believing that a
journalist is going beyond his legitimate
pion of the prosecution or the defense, and
we have given the second version of this
tragedy, on rumor, just because through
an oversight we gave a different rumored
version a short time since.”

pects. About forty men are now employtion. The snow is still six or seven feet
deep in some places between Eureka and
the mill, and provisions are packed in
from Washington.
Yuune & Buack, in their quartz mine
at Eureka, employ some thirty men. The
mill is kept running constantly, and the
rock is yielding handsomely.
A NEw Town.—On the Sonth Fork of
the. Yuba, some miners have surveyed and
laid out a town which they have designated as Gumtown. Several hundred men
are prospecting in, the locality, and it is
said the ledges look first rate.
New Mi1L1s.—Two new mills, one for
working quartz, and the other cement, are
It issaid that a number of Grass Valley and
Birchville men have become interested in
the development of extensive cement mines
in this locality.
THE Birchville company whose claim is
located near Eureka, have been offered
$30,000 for a controlling interest in their
mine.
LET the soldiers remember the parade
and drill on Saturday evening. The Light
Guard ought to turn out sixty men at
least.
YUBAVILLE.—A new town has been located on the Middle Yuba_ river, seven
miles below Moore’s Flat,called Yubaville.
It is said to have five quartz ledges to build
it up, anda large number of confident pros.
pectors.
MINING ACCIDENT.—A ¢ave occurred
in the claim of Stidger, Mull & Co., at
Buckeye Hill, Bridgeport township, by
which Jack Dempson was seriously injured, on Wednesday night last.
THANKS.—We are indebted to Alex. Zekind, of Greenwald’s cigar and_ tobacco
store, for favors extended this office. Alex.
is a first-rate fellow, and isever ready to
supply smokers and chewers with the best
in the market.

N acquaintance remarked to me the other
A day, that he had read my Card proposing to
save the public fifty or sixty thousand dollars a
year in their Meat Bills. Sut said he, I have too
high an opinion of your good seuse to suppose
for a moment that you seriously intended such a
thing, for you must know that you would be much
more thought ot, if you were to rob the public of
that amount rather than save it for them .
