* ‘Tae enemies of Sargent, while professing
to bein his favor, daily slander and misrepresent him.
“infer that when the Conness-Low organs of
this county and State assail Sargent they but
re-echo the sentiments of those they. represent. When Sargent is villified in this county all the Kent party say, amen, and each . one when the key-note is sounded in Nevada take up the tane and bear it to every partofthe State. Can the people of ihis county
believe or trust a: faction which shows so
_-Mueh ineoasisteney.— If the amount of abuse
heaped upon a man were evidence of friendship for him, the Kent men age claim to
be Sargerit’s best friends,
APPEARANCEs seem to indicate that the
people of this county will not send a single
anti-Sargent man to the County Convention.
. He will be vindicated to-day by the loyal
men who know his werth, and his villifiers.
will receive a withering rebuke at the hands
of the people of Nevada obeys
THE RAcEs. —The races yesterday shen
off splendidly. All who attended except
those who bet on losing horses were delighted. There will be no racing to-day in consequence of the primary elections, but there
will be agrand day's sport to-morrow.. We
advise everybody to go to the races on Friday.
Tae WeaTHER.—For several days past
we have been favored with occasional. indications of rain, and yesterday during the
entire day the sky was overcast with clouds.
A good shower would be something out of
the usual order of things, but nevertheless
very acceptable.
THe Grass Valley National is ery: its
aid in securing the success of the “Short
Hair” ticket. What's up ?— Transcript.
The Marysville Appeal, in commenting on
the above item, suys: “So with the copperheads and copperhead papers all over the
State. The Placerville Democrat is filed
every week with communications favoring
“social amenity.” It is impossible to find a
copperhead opposed to Low. Even their
lads cry on the steeet, “My father is a
short.” They know, They hear short talk
at home.”
‘Gov. Low better hunt up another adver.
tisement or issue another proclamation and
have it published exclusively inthe Grass
‘Vailey National. Itis’ a good Short-Hair
paper and should be sustained. The Long
Hairs don’t want help from such a quarier.
Tae Ececrion Here —Phe polls will
be opened in this city at the office of J. 1.
Caldwell, ‘this morning at 10 o'clock, and
remain open until 7 o'clock in the evening
The “short hairs” will be short of votes by
about two hundred in this city. There will
be a big sale for hair resturative after the
primary.
__ ‘Uston MEN remember that the Grass
Valley National is adeocating the election of
the Short Hair Ticket. If, for no other
reason that ticket should be repudiated by
the people of Nevada county. Something
