LOCAL AFFAIRS, The Cosmopolitan Fair. U The time for holding the Second Grand Fair of the Cosmopolitan Benevolent Society is drawing near, the agents on this coast and in the Atlantic States are sending in orders for more tickets, and from present indications, but a few weeks will elapse before the drawing will take place, and some lucky fellow will find himself the possessor of $25,000; simply by investing only $250} in the purchase of a ticket. But this is not the only prize to be given away, there are 2,004 others, ranging from the princely sum of $15,000 down to a twenty dollar piece, making the total amount to be awarded to ticket holders, $150,000. The managers of the Society are men who are true and trusty, and will fulfil every promise they make, and the references to some of our leading business men, to be found in the advertisement, is suflicient guarantee of the fact. The success of this enterprise is now certain, and the. drawing could take place immediately if one quarter were deducted from the prizes.— But the managers are determined to pay in full, and the way tickets are going off, it will be but a short time’ before the drawing will take place.— Now is the opportunity to make your fortune for $2 50. The Skating Rink. The Nevada skating rink, under the management of Birdseye Bullard, is one of the neatest and best regulated establishments of the kind in the State. Mr. Bullard has’ been running the establishment for some time, and-his patrons have been more than satisfied—they have been delighted, and it is always a pleasure to visit the rink, either for skatift or asa ‘lookeron.’’ The hall is always kept in the best order, the floor and séats are always clean, and the ante-rooms have every convenience for the visitors, Mr. Bullard always has assistants on land who aréready to attend to-the-wants of customers. His skates are always in the best order, andare carefully cleaned every day, so that there is no danger of soiled dresses for the ladies as in most of the rinks. The refreshment stand is supplied with excellent fountain soda, splendid ice cream, strawberries, etc.— Everything about the stand, in the hall and the ante-roomis is arranged with the greatest taste, and the universal verdict of all who attend the rink is that Bullard is the “‘right man inthe right place.” Skating is an invigorating and. healthful exercise, and a most excellent recreation. The rink is a splendid place to spend an evening. Even those who oppose dancing can, with the greatest propriety indulge in skating, and we advise all, especially those who are in delicate health to learn to skate, if they would drive away disease and become strong again. Since skating has become popular the cheeks of the young ladies look rosier, and their friends save double the amount expended for skating by the decrease in doctor’s bills. Let everybody go to.the rink and see how well Bullard manages to please the public. —>’ The Assessment Roll, oH County Auditor Rogers has commenceé recording the property listed by the County Assessor on the original assessment roll, for the year 1871-2. The rolls heretofore entered in three books, one for each district, will this year be included in one volume. J/The book is nearly 24% by 3 feet when open, contains nearly 550 clapboarding. It will be a convenient thing for the Collector to carry in his vest pocket, when he makes his trip to each township for the collection of taxes.” ~~ een mm ~~ oe ; Oates’ Reception. . V We publish to-day a full report of the reception of our townsman, Hon. Sam. T. Oates, at Vallejo, in which the leading Democrats of that locality united to do honor to the ‘‘young man eloquent.”” As Sam. has not been out of town fora month, it is evident that some impostor presuming upon the well earned and high reputation of the great Democratic statesman, Mr. Oates, has -been--imposing on the Democracy of Vallejo. Fire at Colfax. Yesterday morning a fire occurred at Colfax, by which the lumber yard . and two buildings: on the Nevada road on the suburbs of town were totally destroyed. What is the rational mode of procedure in cases of general debility and nervous prostration? Does not reason tell us that judi« cious stimulation is required. ‘To resort to violent purgation in such a case is absurd as it would be to bleed a starving man. Yet it isdone every day. Yes, this stupid and unphilosophical practice is continued in the teeth of the great fact that physical weakness, with all the nervous disturbances that accompany it, is more certainly arid rapidly relieved by Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters than by any other medicine at present known It is true that general debility is often attended with torpidity or irregularity of the bowels, and that this symptom must not be overlooked. But while the discharge of the waste matter of the system ‘is expedited or regulated, its vigor must be recruited, The Bitters do both. They combine aperien and “antibilious~properties, with extraordinary tonic powers. Even while removing obstructions from the bowels, they tone and invigorate those organs. Through the stomach, upon which the great vegetable specific acts directly, it gives a healthy and _ permanent impetus to every enfeebled function. Digestion is facilitated, the faltdring circulation regulated, the blood reinforced with a mew accession of the alimentary principle, the nerves braced, and all the dormant powers of the system roused into healthy action; not spasmodically, as would be the case if a mere stimulant were administered, but for a continuance. It is in this way that such extraordinary changes are wrought in the condition of the feeble, emaciated and nervous invalids by the use of this wonderful corrective, alterative and tonic. Let common sense decide between such a preparation and a prostrating cathartic supplemented by a poisonous astringent like strychnine or quinie. PAIN KILLER. PERRY DAVIS & SON, PROVIDENCE, B&. I., PROPRIETORS, 1840. 1871. The ‘* Parn KILLER ” may justly be styled the great medicine of the world, for there is no region of the globe into which it has not found its way, and been largely used and highly prized. Moreover, there is no clime to which it has not proved to be wel] adapted for the cure of a considerable variety of diseases; it isa speedy and safe remedy for burns, scalds, cuts, bruises, wounds, and various other injuries, as well as for dysentery, diarrhoea, and bowel complaints generally, it is admirably suited for every race of men on the face of the globe. It is a very significant fact, that notwithstanding the long period of ycars that tha “Pain Killer” has been befere the world, it has never lost one whit of its popularity, but, on the contrary, the call fer—it has steadily increased from its first discovery‘ and at no previous time has the demand for it been so great, or the quantity made been so large, as to-day. ‘ Another significant fact is, that nowhere has the Pain Killer ever been in higher repute, or been more generally used by: fanrijies.and individuals, than it has been here at home, where it was first discovered and introduced, That the Pain Killer-will continue to be, what we have styled it, THE GREAT MEDICINE OF THE WORLD, there can not be the shadow of a doubt.—[Providence Advertiser.
