A Poem for the Fourth. 8
_ ‘The celebration in this city on the
Fourth of July willbe the most attractive ever held in Nevada county.
Albert) Hart, Secretary to Governor
Booth, hus accepted an invitation
from the Committee to read an oriyinal poem. ‘The well known repu-.
tation of Mr. Hart as a writer of poetry is sufficient guarantee of the excellencé of the produetion. The
“Oration by Goy. Booth should be
heard by, every citizen of Nevada
county. As an orator Gov. Booth
has few equals, aud the people of the
county will: enjoy a literary treat on
the Fourth more excellent than the
“people of any other localities in the
State. We advise every person to
hear the poem and the oration on
that day. Besides these ° attrac-:
tions there will be.a large procession
and other interesting exercises, . f
A Calitornia Lion Captured, \
On Friday last a California lion>
weighing 140 pounds, was killed at
Hatch’s ranch, Indian Springs. For
several years he has been committing
depredations in. that part of Rough
and Ready towuship, and the dogs
have tackled him, but they always
came off second:best. On Friday
the dogs again got cn his track, and
some of the men in the neighborhood joined in the chase, which resulted in the death of the animal.

_ What the Weak Need. .
Why do the; debilitated and feeble dread
the Summer?. Itis because heat is an exhausting element, avd they are not in. a
condition to bear the new drain upontheir
languid systems, which they think must
necessarily commence with the warm weather. But cannot this evil be obviated?
Most indubitably it can. What these-weaklings need—in tact, what nine-teuths of us
need at this season—is an accession of physical vigor, and this -desideratum can be secured, with #bsolute certainty, by a course
of the mightiest, yet mildest, of all vegetable tonics, Hostetter’s Stunach Bitters,
, Thousands of men of business, mechanics and professional men break down, partially or wholly, under their Summer ‘labors, simply because they have neglected
to reinforge the powers of nature in this
way. To persons who use the celebrated invigerant and corrective regularly in hot
j Weather, the cxhaustion which, excessive
heat is apt to produce under other cireumstAnces is unknown, They arenot troubled
