Revala Go County Oitcial Press,
SUNDAY. JUNE 17, .
A SAMPLE SLICKENS SUIT.
Kennedy, the Sierra county representative of the anti-mining element, who recently commenced suit
to enjoin the Raby Drift Minivg
Company from fouling the water of
Rock Oreck, owns a ranch situated
On that steam near where it empties
into the North Yuba River at Goodyear’s Bar. Kennedy paid $2,000
for his twenty-‘our acres of land, and
when he. bought it. the creek that . )
passes by had for years and years .
been what is known as a «ining
stream, The mine owned by defendant has had about « quarter of
@ million of dollars expended on it,
but has not until lately been a bullion producer. It now yields something like twenty thousand dollars
& month ‘and is rapidly increasing
its output as the. work of development progresses, A hundred men—
all of them white—are regularly employed by the company.
We expect to hear next that the
anti-ininers have turned their attention to the stoppage of quartz mines.
They would have done so long ago,
“we feel certain, but they thought it
was easier to light one branch of the
industry at a time, because the hydrau.ic and drift and quartz miners
of Calitornia are practically invincible wien united, and the valley people did not think they were lougheaded enough to unite if strategy
was employed against them and they
were attacked one ata tinue in the
order we have named. But in this
Cadwalader and his delectable gang
were mistaken, for the minera show
to them a solid frout that they cannot break through if they keep ou
trying till doomsday.

_PERFIDIOUS DEMOCR acy,
; The Democratic party are shididing
crocodile tears over their broken
promises to the people aud are trying to cover things over by resorting tu
the anti-monopoly dodye, ‘The people now gee what many Repubiicans
saw last fall, that their promises 01
relief were frauds and made only tu
be broken. They hud the Senate
and the Legislature. What did they
do for the people? Nothing. ‘They
have the executive branch of the
government. ‘They have the Railroad Commission, but after almost six
months of a Democratic aduiunistration the peuple are no better off than
before, Judging the future by the
past, especially by Buchanan’s admivistration, if we have a State lett
after four years of Democratié rule
we will think ourselyes well off. It
is amusing to watch the antics of
Verry, Budd and others, who werg
so loud in their promises of reform
if the people would only place them
in power, It proves the truth oj
Kearney’s assertion that the monopolists had captured the,San Jose Convention, All this talk and buncombe will deceive no one. ‘The
people will bear with patience uutil
the time comes for a change, and
they will rebuke the frauds that the
present adininstration have hoisted
over them.

THE tersest und most forcible
comment made on the Red Bluti
tragedy is the followiug from the
Oakland Times:
Red Bluff, whereby an agedman is
cut down unshrived, and a young
man has raised his hand against all
that is best in his own life by directing it against the life of another, is
another voice raised against that
foolish pride in the severities ol’
personal controversy, which leads sv
__many astray, aud has spilled so much
good blood in California. The two
editors who figure in the tragedy
.,were gaining nothing in business
nor public esteem by the abuse which
ends iy murder. It was useless,
demoralizing to the community, and
degrading to their’ profession, and
ite qnd is as mournful as its beginning was unnecessary.”
Caprain Epmunp Kewuzy of the
whaler Lucretia, now iu ‘the Arctic
ocean, artived at San Francisco
Thureday in bad health, He reports . ,
that from the 22d to the 24th of
March his crew were in a. mutiny,
during which John Madden, the ringleader, was shot dead by the Cap* tain, which settled the disturbance;
and the.crew returned to duty. Kverything was in perfect order on the
22d of April, when the Captain left.
Daxora holds a Constitutional
Convention Tuesday preparatory to
knocking at the door of Congress
next, December for admission as a
State into the Union. She has the
requisite population, and the only
objection which the Democratic
Congress will raise, is, that she will
furnish three Repub.ican electoral
votes in 1884. _

struggling with him, Floyd fired
again as he was being forced away,

dangerous, but not necessarily fatal.
Kay offered to surrender, but ‘no

Floyd himself, while still denying
his guilt, requests that Kay be not
prosecuted and says his action was
right if he thought his daughter had
been wronged.
