his mother-in-law, east of Banner
Hill, while: he was attempting to
stop an assault being made by‘a man
named J. T. Riley on .a Frenchman
named Messiet. The names of Fuchs’ .
assailants were T.Sullivan andJ. McCarty, who both were friendsof Riley,
and all of them miners from Little
York township. Mr. Fuchs was}
badly beaten and _ bruised, so
much so ‘that he’ has not been able
