The Piutes are holding a grand fandango near Virginia City, and. the Chronicle gives the following account of the openirg ceremonies: Last Sunday evening the Piutes opened their June Musical Festival on the hillside about two miles from the city and near the Chinese burying ground. The ceremonies were inaugurated by the building of two large fires, the fuel being cedar roots brought to the place on the backs of jackasses, who stood back surveying the scene with characteristic gravity: . Whew’ the fires were blazing well the . donkeys were taken to one side out of the way, and-tbhe bucks began dancing about the blaze and yelling after the most approved Indian fuashion. This dancing was kept up for some Lours, when ut about 10 o'clock “The Sweet Siiger from Walker River’’ was introduced by Captain Bob, the chief muneger. He was a big, fat, greasy looking Piute with a mouth forcibly remindiug one of the end men of the Tennessee Jubilee Singers. At a signal from Bob, he threw open his shocking cavity und gave the admiring Piutes a taste of his qualities as » singer. His voiee.is akin to the plaintive bleut of a billygoat just after receiving an invoice of bucksbot from a B street householder, or the snort of Forepaugh’s jabberwack whea calling for ed fo: about fifteen minutes, during which time the most profound silence prevailed among the Piutes; and when .« few whiles present Janghed derisively at bis efforts to climb u to E sharp, Captain Bob gathered u When the reporter left the place ut miduighbt the hilarity was at its height.
