The Bric-a-Brac Party.
Fhe Wilton Bric-a—Brac Party are
announced to appear at the Theatre
ou Thursday evening next. In addition to MissGeordie Hayne and
Prof. Frank Wilton, the party -includes several artists of acknowledged ability. The piece selected for
the occasion, is the ever popn'ar
“Strategists, -or—tre Victim —of7
Circumstance,” in which Mr, Chas.
Wheatleigh earned his brightewt
laurels. It was brought to this
fcoast by him anda copy presented
to Mr. Wilton. It will be produeei with all the original stage effects,
nd cannot fail to draw a crowded
house,
— ~~ © @ -The Reason.
Nevada City is not an orderly
place, but the frequency of ‘disturb-.
nces is easily accounted for. We
have a population ‘of something like
b,000 souls, yet there is-only one
policeman on each watch, San Franisco, on the other hand, has one to
very. seven hundred inhabitants,
nd the police there are kept reasonbly busy. Our local officers accompplish as much in the way of preserv—
hg quiet as any two men on the
vast could; but there oughi to be
hore of them.
C
Nothing te Beycott.
The Bear River News saysthat the
eople at Wheatland do not ‘‘care
0 straws” for the resolutions of
€ Moore’s Flat people wherein’ it
» determined to withdraw all trade
om Wheatland. Heére in Nevada
ity, Wheatland was boycotted long
Bo, but it was because the grangers
here tried to sell us such an execrale quality of flour.

pacres of mining land,
The next point of interest is Columbia Hill, about seven miles from
San Juan. Here is located the office
of the Kureka Lake and Yuba Canal
Company Consolidated. This company employs in its varjous mines at
Snow Point, Eureka South, Relief
Hill and Moore’s Flat ‘abont 400
men. Last year they used in their
own mines and sold to other companies 1,400,000 inches of water. They
pay trom $15,000 to $20,000 monthly
for labor, running the whole year.
They have patents for over 3000
which with
$ieir present facilities will keep them
runnin tor over fifty years, Sever—
al ot their claims are now running,
but by the time this reaches you they
will be closed down.

The Champion Mine.
The‘ Champion mine is working
-{at Nevada City, on the north side of
D-er creek. The ground of this
company is located between the Wyoming ground and the Merrifield
‘mine. The Champion’s tunnel is
now in 1700 feet, and last Wednesday the miners began to cross-cut.
It is positively known that the cross
cutting will strike three or “four
large and rich ledges within a very
few days. Work in running? the
tunnel has been going on fer the past
four, years. The stock of the Champion is owned in Grass ‘Valley, Ne—
vada City and in San Francisco.
There has never been difficulty in
collecting an assessment on the stock,
as each holder of it knows the mine
must turn out to be immensely rich.
Indeed its richness is already an established fact. Ouly a few days ago
some of thestock soldin San Francisco for $2.50 pershare, There are
33,000 shares of stock in all, and
not another share can be purchased at the price named.—Free Lance.
