B. <r eae aati LOCAL AFFAIRS. : oe A Rich Lepce.—A San Francisco and Grasé Valley company is working a. ledge ‘Jocated about a mileand a half below town, on Deer Creek, and have struck rich rock: The ledge. was discovered some time last’ Summer,’ in the channel of Deer Creek.— The volume of water is not-very large where the ledge was found, because of the large -quantity taken out by ditches higher up.— he waters of the creek were turned and the company.after erecting’ a pump, com. menced sinking #shaft in the bed of the ereek.At a depth of seventy feet they found a large and well défined ledge. The rock is filled with—rich galena sulphurets, Company are taking out reck quite fast and. will seon have sufficient for a crushing. On the peiat where this ledge cropped out in the bed of the créck, a number of specimens . were found containing picces of gold worth from twenty-five cents to two dollars. Frou the appearance of the specimens shown us, we should judge the rock now being taken out te be worth from one hundred to one hundred aud twenty-five doliars to the ton. : THE NortuH Srar.—The North Star Miniog Company are now hauling rock to the French mill and a crushing Will be had next week. The Company have the shaft down fifty feet and are taking out some excellent looking rock. The-lastcrusbing paid from $20 to $25 per ten. The owners propose to put up. hoisting works some time during the summer.* : ' THE FRENCH MILL.—The French mill of Varney’s pans’ and settlers. The improvements are nearly completed and the will will be ready to startin next Monday, The furnace recently erected for reasting and steaming sulphurets hus been put in excellént order, and the sulphurets coming from the mill will be worked by this profrom the ledges in the vicinity of Canada Hill, and the mill will be kept in constant operation. THE Masonic CELEBRATION. — The Masons of this city are making extensive preparations for the celebration of St. John’s Washington Band furnish music, There will be a grand procession in which the several ledges uf this aod adjoining counties will participate. Au oration will be delivered at the Theatre by H. H. Hartley of Sacramento, and other exercises of an interesting character will take place. The ball at Temperauce Hall, on Mouday night, willbe The hall . bas been covered with canvas, excelleut music has been secured, and a splendid supper is being prepared. It has been many years since a Masonic celebration bas taken place in this city, and the prospect is the town will be crowded with visitors. Nevava Hose Company.—At a meeting of Nevada Hose Company, held on committee of arrangements to participate in the Fourth of July celebration was unanimously’ accepted. The Company determined to parade with their carriage and jumper. The upparatus will be drawn by horses. They adopted a uniform, cunsisting of red shirts faced with black velvet, straw hate and black pants for parade. E. F, Spence and W.R.
