Revwila eet Heavy SALE oF Hypraviic Crats. The attention of capitalists has been directed’to the rich and extensive béds of gravel found in the county,: pss several heavy sules have been made.¥ 8, F. Butterworth, Superintendent of the Almeden quicksilver mine, L, L. Robinson, of Pioche & Co., and a number of capitalists, have purchased several extensive gravel claims upon Humbug Creek, near the town of North Bloomfield. One set of claims were . _purchased for $200,000, and an adjoining set brought $150,000. The claims aloug the creek are exceedingly rich, and an im.mense-amount of gold has been taken from them, but owing to the light grade of the creek it has been 1mpossible to work the claims to any great depth. The purchasers of these claims are already making arrangements. for working them. en an extensive scale. A large number of men will be employed and the town of Bloomfield willbe. quite lively. The basin in which these “ elaims are located can be washed. to the bed rock, if a tunnel is run from Humbug creek to the banks of the Yuba, a distance of about two thousand’ feet. , The: miners” owning ground on the creek have been talk. ing of putting this tunnel-through for several years, but as they -were mostly men of sual] means, the great expense of the work deterred them. We suppose the’ capital‘ists who have invested their money in these mines will svonhave the tunnel opened, and the yield of the claims will then be more than double what is was under the system of surface washing, which the min. ers have been cumpelled to be satisfied with heretofore. The same revival in hydraulic mining exhibited. in North Bloomfield, is mavifested in every part of the county. Ut is probuble that at an early day a bed-rock tunnel will be run tu the bottom of the great basin at Columbia Hill and Cherokee. topping immense gravel beds of one hundred and fifty to four hundred feet deep, which have on the surface paid as well as any claiins in the State. Where the bottom is reached the yield is greatly increased: A number of causes have titited tu bring about this revival of hydraulic mining in this county. Our old miners, after traveling to dis tant lands in search of better pay,and meet. ing with nothing but disappointment, returned tu this county and began working . . their oldclaime. The large returns at each clean up, made by companies which contin. ued work, soon demonstrated the fact that the gravel claims of the county were not worked out. ‘Old.companies were re-organized aud new. ones formed, and in every case success was the rule und failure the exception. In addition to this, the improved machinery and processes for extracting gold _ from the eulphurets, the invention of pans. for grinding and mills for crushing the cement found on the bed-rock in gravel claims, greatly increased the yield uf these mines: and proved that millions of money had been washed into the ravines and creeks, which, with proper machinery might have been saved. At this time, old claims long since deserted are being fitted up, and there is a great demand for guod gravel claims among capitalists. Great confidence is felt in them on account of their vast extent and _their regularity in pay. Ina year the yield from this source will be nearly double what it is at the present time. \ in, Circus.—The Cosmopolitan Circus, under the mangement of Messrs, Lee & Ryland, will exhibit in this city, on the Fourth of July, afternoon and evening.
