(an CRE AURAL. Hevada, Daily Transcript. WEDNESDAY MORNING, JUNE 29th. —_— —— a) __ FOR PRESIDENT, ABRAHAM LINCOLN. FOR VICE PRESIDENT. ANDREW JOHNSON, — ence GoLp_axp Gauenpacks.—Next to the result of the campaign agninst: Richmond; the great question is that of the currenty.— Not a.man_in_wlt the loyal States, perhaps, passes a day without neking himaelt_or his Coat —In this Territory, says the Teisiexcifement—a short and stormy period duting which onl on the brain is fearfully prevalent—a space of time black with coke and swelling with gas! We have another of those spells upon us—our periodical attack 1s coming on, and shortly we shall all become thoroughly. carbonized. . Heretofore . our attacks of coal fever have passed off without ‘any practical advantage or valuable results to us; but if we may eredit the tremendous rumors now afleat, we Lave struck it at last. We were told yesterday of an immense stratum of coal having been uncovered horizontally for distence of one hundred feet, while 5. vertical shaft of great depth -had—fuiled-to ~“floighbor, whether gold is going up or down, It is a question that concerns every person, not only asa patriot, but as an individual . having pecuniary interests invelved. Some have greenbacks on band and are interested: —tn-knowing whut isto result to their pockote by holding them. Others expect to be obliged to take them by and by, and they ' ‘want to know the worst in time and be pre« pared for it. Rt We know there are a large niiinber in the country who have purchased greenbacks “ft higher prices than they-atpresent comi>} mand, relying on the capture of Richmond and other Federal syccesses, to raise the “price of the Government paper. Others have kept what they have been obliged to take, for the same reason, All. would like ~ to know a little of the future that they may” profit by it. . We pretend to no knowledge of future events, We don’t know that Grantwill toke Richmond, though we feel very. confident of it. But, whether he does or not, we are nut aniong those who believe that in case of full success greeabacks will. rise.very exe traordmarily in price, or be depressed to a corresponding extent in the event of a fuilure. "The fact ia the importing merchants of New York are owing between three and four hundred millions in Eurepe for goods ~~ pliréhaved to-wuit the extravagant tastes of dur peoplo, and tlikt amount must be paid in gold. Merchants, to maintain their cred« Feut through the Jayer. This great coal deposit is on the Truckee river, somewhere whom we held some conversation about the vein assured us that it was “‘as thick as the International Hotel is high.” That is plenty thick enough. If the gentleman could cone scientiously-have made it seven inches'thick: er we should not have ashed him to do so It is thick enough; all we ask is for itte stay nsit isnow. Should it dwindle down and shrink till not more than half as “thick é@ the Titernational is high,” we should all feel bad ; but it is well known that the climate of Washoe bas” a thousand. times produced precisely such effects on big things. We ean only curse the-climaté and grin and bear it. Eastern News.—Dates—to—Jane-23d have been received. Hancock’s corps was repulsed by the enemy in the neighborhood of Port Walthall, when Burnside advanced torial Enterprise, we tiave n periodical coal DeaTH or Harry Capy.—We are pained to snnounte the deathiof Henry D. Cady, uf Grass Valiey, which took place in that town yesterday afternoon, at 34 o’elock. Mr. Cady was one-of the oldest citizens of Grass Valley, and was universally known throughout the county. He was-a generous, open-hearted man, and consequently had hosts of friends. He was about 36 years of age and was formerly.of New York. THe Wasbington correspondent uf the San Francisco Bulletin says: aan When in a recent letter I gave the views and arguments of Secretary Chase and ‘his establishing a Notional Bink in Califuthia, Which should issue United States circniating notes, but redeem them in coin, 1 had . not the least expectjtion of being called upon . ‘so soon to announce an enterprise as actually 06 foot. As greenbacks will not be taken abroad, they must be sold for gold and at any price the gold-holders @ mand. This baa more to do with the yelative valuge of gold_and greenbacks than-the‘national debt, the relative situxtions of the contend“Xing forces, or the probable final issue.“Phe war has made thousands of men in the North rich. Money is plenty in-all the loyal Statet and business brisk. Prosperity induces luxury, and money goes without stint four costly tings from, foreign lands that we could do without. Shoddy wants diamonds, costly. furniture and equipage, magnificent dresses, &c., and Shdddy will have what she wante. And while there is a demand for foreign goods, importations will continue, though the cost may be five times se much as at present, and the last dollar. in coin be drained from the land to pay the shot. Victories of arms will be ‘grateful to every patriot heart; but a greate et victory, both for our country ond for ours selves as individuals, would be that of con« quering our taste for foreign luxuries. When we cowe down to the resvlution to purchase nothing but what is American, and to do all we oan to make our country self-reliant . nod eelfssupporting, we shall have achieved a .triamph that will cause greenbacks to rigo in value like mercuty in a thermometer exposed to torrid heat. We are like the Wagoner, stuck in the taud, who ealled on Jupitet and eelied alone upon him for extricativth. We need not expect Gen. Grant to do all there ie to be done. We have to put vur oWh shoulders to the wheel, cut off foreign supplies, and save the cost in hard cain at home, In this way gold will be plenty and enormous premiums will not have ‘to be paid for it, because it will not be demanded for ebipment There must be some -selfabnegation among onr wives and daughters and ‘ourselves, or we. shall see greenbacks going down -to thirty cents, and even lower, before this war is over. The country cans not etend its importations so largely in exvess of its exports. We had better open ourveyes to this fact at once, and as we are so patriotic and it 1s so popular to contrib» ute to the Sanitary Fund, why not have it equally ae popular to belong to a loyal league, men, women, and children, iu which all shall be pledged to purchase nothing but what is American? A general movement of this kind-would suon relieve the country of the evils caused by the depreciation of ite currency, enatch millions from nations inimical to our own in our great struggle for self: preaérvativa, and redound to our credit as well as prosperity. Nothiog leas will do: THE editor of the Sacramento Star says he-don't believe “Btaze’s” magpie stole a three ‘em leader from our office: It's every word trus, but there's @ fellow in the Star office that can discount-the magpie.
