THe BLoop Turrety Party.—The
opponents ofthe Union party are ac.
eustomed to use the vilest epithets
when referring to its motives and its
principles. Besides ‘all manner of evil”
in the administration of government,
it ischarged that this party in its Southern policy is only actuated by a desire
to visit vengeance upon the defenceless
inhabitants of that section. To read
the. Democratic papers in regard to the
thatthe parties sent South to enforce
the Reconstruction law were savages,
entered upon a crusade of murder and
rapine. That the enemies of the Un.
ion party misrepresent ita principles
and grossly belie its practice, is known
ly proved.
Eyery resolution adoption, and every
actof Congress passed by the Union
party; have had for their object the
establishment.of peace and good government in the land. The reconstruc.
tion law now in operation in the South,
énd denounced as “most tyrannical,”
has saved the lives of hundreds of citizens who were in deadly fear of violence.
from the guerrillas and rebels of that
section. Under such regulations there
is no danger of such scenes as occurred
in New Orleans, and this policy which
hag done so much to restore order is denounced as tyrannical.
“act of tyranny has marked the administration of law i in the South.
For the future We must judge by the
past of the party and by its creed.—
The Union party desires to establish

and a free press. The Union party de_ clares for equal and exact justice to all
men, and urges the South to build up

‘The Union party, in’ short, desires to

assisted by other musicians will give a
concert in this city next week. Whereever these artists have been their concerts have been largely attended, and
the press have giyen them the highest .
praise. The Bulletin during their recent engagement in 7 Francisco, said }\
of them:
“Mr. Heine is a master of the violin.
His style is scrupulously classical. He
evokes the most exquisite harmonies
from his instrument—now causing it to
wail with sorrow, now to thrill with the
extasy of joy. The first note revealed
the true artist, and took the sympathies
of the audience captive. The last piece,
more especially, executed on a single
string, was a wonderful piece of instrumentation. M. Heine was frequently
interrupted by bursts of applause and
we believe in every instance encored.
Madame Heine is an accomplished pian.
ist, and plays with a firmness yet delicacy ‘of touch quite remarkable.”
ASSAULT AND BATTERY.—Yesterday
afternoon a Chinese assault and battery
case was up before Judge Palmer. The
face of the prosecuting witness was

bruised it was thought that. he had

cent. of his worth, they would elect him

A Mean Rogug.—We never heard
of a person stealing a well, but a rogue
at Osborn Hill, near Grass . Valley,
few nights since “packed off" a hundred
and fifty feet of rope, two buckets and
a wheel, from a well. That thief would
