baa 4 NEVADA cry. CALIFORNIA: THURSDAY, JUNE 4th, 1868. UNIOW TICKET. ¥OR PRESIDENT, . ‘GENERAL ULYSSES S. GRANT. SCHUYLER COLFAX. Wo DOES HE BELONG TO ?—The “Brick Pomeroys” of the Democratic party, those gentlemen who are continually prating about the daggers which will leap from their sheaths, should Grant be elected President, are in a quandary as to whom the President of Wilkes Booth belongs, now that he has been technically acquitted and. morally convicted of high crimes and misdemeanors against the Government. In our humble judgment it is a matter very easy of solution. Lincoln was murdered in the presence of his family, in « crowded theatre, by a member of the Democratic pro-slavery party ; who, acting for the party he represented, and knowing the pliable stuff of which Andrew Johnson was made, paved the way for his easy entree into the Democratic fold, by that of assassination Which appalled the world. Johnson was ‘elected on the Republican ticket with Lincoln ; the latter was murdered by-a Democrat, and Johnson ascended to the vacant place. The price he paid for the succession was his disgracefal _ abandonment of his party principles, his desertion of the policy of Lincoln, of whom when alluding to the punishmént which should be meted out to rebels and traitors, be said: “though in him mercy has been slain, let not justice be slain also ;’ and his restoring, without the shadow of right o¢ law, the most infamcus traitors of the day— all Democrats—to their ald position and property in their several localities. Af___ ter the bbratat murder of Lincoln by the ~ head-centre of the Ku-Kiux-Klan, all the advisers of Johnson were Democrats; to them he naturally turned for countenance and comfort, when the bloody form of the assassinated Lincoln would come between him and his cups, asa warning to desist from the course he was pursuing. To the Democratic party and to no other does Andrew Johnson belong, and it will require the united strength of more “Brick Pomeroys” than there are in that organization now to successfully repudiate him. He was discarded by the betrayed. Re* publican party long since, and left to whistle down the tide of time as best suited him. The Democracy patted him. on the back at every station, revived his drooping spirits, and assisted him to “swing around the circle” to the disgust ofthe nation. If any more evidence were needed to prove that Andrew Johnson belongs body and sdul to the Ku-Klux-Klan of the country, let the rise, progress and result of the impeachment trial be introduced. The Republican press of the country favored it ; the “Brick Pomeroys” of the Demo cratic press were opposed to it.— Throughout its progress the Democracy indulged in vehement appeals against the Senate; denouncing certain members (Republican) in the most disgraceeful manner, and calling upon the people to rally in their strength to put down the “Rump Congress.” When the result of the trial was announced, brought . about by the aid of Republican votes, a shont .of acclaim. went up—not from the press of the Republican party, not from the voices of Union 1nen, lovers of their country and. of. patriots, but from the-colemns of the presses edited by the “Brick Pomeroys”’ of the country, and from the throats of every Copperhead and Ku-Klux-Klan in the Union. The latter were pleased, and why should they not have been? Blood red murder gave him to them, and by blood red murder do they threaten to win again: THAT EARTHQUAKE.~From the time given by exchanges for the shocks of the late earthquake, it would seem that a 4 ee . -] supply is 62,000,000 gallons. -of the conversion, the editor of the Unbefore yesterday at his home in Lancaster, Pa., at an advanced age. Some one has borrowed our encyclopedia, and thus we are not enabled to publish a long account of the deceased as-some of our larger cotemporaries will do. © Bat our space allows us tosay that Buchanan probably, will be remembered as much for his connection with the bar-. gain and sale slander on’ Henry Clay, ‘his infamous Ostend manifesto, his position while the Kansas atrocities were being perpetrated, and the crowning acts of imbecility ‘which marked his course when tle rebels rose in their audacity and might to destroy this Government, as for any good service he ever rendered the country in his better moments. The gravelsalways invoked to cover faults and disclose virtues ; but the life and deeds of James Buchanan .can no part of them be hidden. They must stand before the light of the world and receive criticism while time endures. EXPERIENCES OF A CoNVERT.—The. Rebel press has been glorifying over a convert to their cause in the shape of the Esmeralda Union. Several of the ehange.of heart, and bespoke for it a liberal support. As there might be some suspicion as to the genuineness ton has kept up a self examination and finds he has experienced a change of heart. Hear him : One of the most satisfactory effects of Democracy is the economy which results from it. Our wash bill, since we joined the “Great Unwashed,” has fallen off from $2°a week to—nothing.— We spend no money at the barber's or the bootblack’s ; contribute nothing to the support of ministers of the Gospel or cichasbe, make no donations to asylums for curing deafness or blindnesse—both of which disorders, (especially when they are of a mental nature.) are promotive of pure Democracy.— Have no trouble now about little store. bille—have, in fact, become such a favorite among the merchants, that they all desire us to have first choice among their new goods, and have. un ‘arrives—afier the Presidential election. We suffer s constant, harrowing fear that niggers, Chinamen and Piutes will become our political, moral and social superiors, and our torturing “visions of fa. extra gallon of corn aoe pares. the great agonizing fear of n r suprema womie doabtions be lifted from the Democratic mind, of thiscommunity at least, before sunset. By these presents do we know that our Democracy is genuine, Tue K. K. K. Notiry OLp Bex.—A Washington correspondent of the Philudelphia Press, writing under date of April 20, says: “Hon. Benjamin F.
