Orders have been issued from Gereral Headquarters, N. The Good Templars’ Lodge in this city has a membership of 180 strong, and is gradually increasing its num— bers of late. District Deputy Walling says it is‘one of the most prosperous organizations that the order has on the Coast, and is doing much good work in an unostentatious way. —_—_—__—~. -—City Tax Levied. The City Trustees have levied a total tax of seventy cents for next year on the assessment valuation of city. property. Fifty cents of this is. for general fund purposes, and twenty cents for fire purposes. This tax is the same as the one paid for the year about to end. Marriage Licenses Issucd. The Peard Consolidated Mining Company of this city, whose claim is on the Suuth Yuba four ‘miles north of dre and a short distance below have after several months of prospectIngin a.quiet way made some developments that promise to be permanent and profitable, “The east drift leading from. the head of the main tunnel, which is in a distance of 131 feet and is 300 feet below: the c Oppings of the ledge and 700 feet below the brow of the mountain, has in the course of its progress opened on to some very fine stlphuret ore. Fifteen feet afier leaving they tunnel it passes through the first vein of goldbearing ‘quartz, “Thisdeably-pay for working. in another pay streak is encountered i that assays in-the-neighborhosd—of t-% $20 atonin gold. At forty-five feet asplendid vein is encountered.— Among the assays one gave at the ‘raté of $24 a ton in silver and $5 a ton in gold. The: drift is in quartz ali the way, being on the foot wall. The ledge is clear y defined, about 7 feet thick, and on the dividing ‘line between granite and slater A track is now being aid in the tunnel and a car wi.l hereafter te used instead of wheelbarrows. A dump is also being built for the. ore that will, be taken out. The drift is in. the meantime being pushed ahead, and will be carried under the mountain a long distance. The Peard Consolidated is a local incorporation, the stockholders being well-known business men and miners who are paying for the work by volunt: ry contributionsinstead of by the usual assessment plan.
