JACKSON, BAY STATE MARKET, : Broad street, opposite City Hall, BEVABAOIY, 660630 cc CAL, " JAMES COLLEY, Prop’y. The Dexology. j One of the most important changes made by the revised New Testament is the omission of what is called the doxology from the Lord’s prayer in Matthew’s gosnel—‘for thine is-the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.” These words are an interpolation fuund on the margin of the text in some of the early manuscripts, and-not-found at allin the oldest ones, Its origin can be traced back to remote Aryan sources,*and it can be found a'most literally in one of the hynins of Zend Avesta, to which some of the students of Iranic literature give an antiquity as great as 2,000 years before Christ, and which is indisputably older than the time of Cyrus and the cuneiform inscriptions (abont 559 B. U.). ‘In this hymn, addressed to Ahura-Mayda, the Creator and Good Principal, occurs the following passage: ‘To Him belongs the kingdom, the might and the power.” Evidently this doxology or ascription is one of the earliest expressions of worship adopted by the Aryan mind. Its omission from the Lord’s; Prayer will not be generally welcomed, for it unquestionably forms an impressive and beautiful climax: but as there is now no reason for supposing it was in the-original Gospel the Christian world must give it up. Biblical scholars are all agreed that uo claim for aspiration can be made for it, jOSTETTER: CELEBRATED fur national Teutonic beverage, beer, according the Paris Fizaro, is lagely ‘used at the royal table in Berlin. $TheEmperor William’s favorite dish is ‘beer soup, made very sweet, with toasted bre id in it; the crown Prince likes beef stewed in beer; which imparts a peculiar flavor to the meats and the Empress is:particularly fond of eels with beer sauce, PYRE mone nomen In Petersburg, Virginia, when “boys wantonly pull door-belle, the parents are fined for the offense, A Card, To all whoare suffering from the errors and, indiscretions of youth, nervous weakness, early dceay, loss of manhood, &c., I will send @ recipe that will cure you, FREE OF CHARGE.
