BROWN & CALKINS, Prop'rs. NP. BROWN Business Manager EONARD 8. CALKINS.. ms : Jacka,) aged 45 years. [Grass d Sacramento papers plone cone} Nevaia County Uiicial Press, SUNDAY, MARCH 11, Caen oe Sierra County Items, oe The following items ot interest are from the Downieville Tribune: Work at the Alaska mine is pro» gressing finely. About 70 men are given employment, The people of Brandy City have good cause to grumb'e at the manner in which they are slighted by the Postoffice Department. Private parties have carried the mails to and from there for years, and the people have had to pay 25 cents for every letter. they posted or received, and) for papers they are taxed 10 cents per copy, : The determination of the Har'em Mining Company to erect chlorination works at their mine is a move in the right direction. It isa . wellkaown fact that what to-day are some of the best paying mines in Nevada county, were. a constant drain on the pockets of the stockholders until the method was adopted of saving sulphurets, and by building their own chlorination works reduced™ Working t¢ a sniall cost, thereby adding-largely to the gold yield. Miners in this county stick to the “old way” with a~ wonderful _/ degree of ‘Ppertinacity. It is only an exceptional case where ore is found that will give its full yield by the ordinary amalgamating process and strange as it may seem the new methods of working gold ores which have been introduced with such grand success in adjacent counties havenever hada trialin Sierracounty. A mine like the Harlem that gives @ yield of 5 per cent. in sulphurets, valued at $100 per ton, is certainly badly managed when the sulphurets are allowed to ruu to waste, as has been the practice for several years past, 3 A et The Excelsior Company Meeting. ‘The special meeting of the stockholders of the Excelsior Water and Mining Company held in San” Fravcisco “Friday, was for various pur. poses, including the ratifying and confirming the action of the Board o! Those who fall in love are seated together at th: table, and of. course lose their appetites. She is getting rich. ; An Austin boy who wanted‘to do in swimming was told by his ‘father, “It was only this morning you were complaining of a pain in your gtomach,” ‘‘That’s so, pa; but 1 know how to swim on my back.” A GRUMBLER say there is one thing which can always be found, aud that is fault, . . ’ \ Invalids who are recovering vital stamina, declare in grateful terms their appreciation of the merits as a tonic, of Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, Not only does it impart strength to the weak, but it also corrects an_irregular acid state of the stomach, makes the bowels act at proper intervals, : “gives ease to those who suffer from conquers as well as prevents fever For sale by all Druggists and ‘Dealers generally. ae DIVIDEND NOTICE. os Assessment Notice. eae YUBA GRAVEL MINING COM.
