NEVADA Cre, CALAPORALA. ire: INTELLIGENCE, A LIVELY PaosEaee.— Phere is every fe prospect for an unustally liyely season, and the merchants of this¢ity’are getting in large stocks of new goods. yet been dotie in mining on account of the rarity in the higher altitudes of the county are yet from three to fifteen feet under . snow. The miners are patiently waiting and as fast asthe snow -melts-new claims will be started. There is a prospect for an: abundant supply of water and a largely increased yield of gold. Every body anticipates a lively season and the chances are that they will not ie disappointed. THE NEVADA QUARTZ MINING ComPaxy:~—The Nevada Gold-and Silver Mining Company, located below this city about one mile, is one of the oldest claims inithe township, having been steadily worked for a numberof years. The quartz is now paying better than it has for several years, and after the last run of. nine days the clean up amounted to three thousand three hundred dollars., The rock which is now being worked is obtained from the upper tunnel; A FINe SPECIMEN, —We saw yesterday “at the office of the Star Spangled Banner Mining Company,'a specimen ot rock from their ledge weighing about seven hundred pounds, It is rich in sulphurets and was taken from the incline about, two hundred and forty feet below the surface. This mine is thoroughly, opened, and rock } enough could be taken ont to keep one hundred stamps in constant operation. Broom MANUFACTORY.—Mr. Freeman, of Freeman’s crossing, near San Juan, is engaged in the manufacture of brooms, and he makes an excellent article. They are handier, neaterand more substantial than any article of the kind we have seen in the State. The merchants of this city pronounce them a very superior broom. and we have no doubt but that housekeepers will concur, GARDENING.—Our citizens are taking advantage of the beautiful weather to improve the grounds: ‘about their residences, Pruning trees and. shrubbery, digging up flower beds, and planting, seems to be. the order of the day. , A large number of trees and vines have been planted this season. — Now is the time to plant all sorts of early . vegetables, and those who have ground to spare can make money, by cultivating it. people are to have a celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Pages.of his Directory of Nevada county, which he has had bound as a specimen.— It contains the history of the county, a specimen of advertisements, names, and: other-interesting matter and gives a fair idea of what. the work will be. when comPleted.
