ay tae wi \e -§ here is e demand for.. Ole NEVADA OITY. —_ A LOCAL ITEMS. Demand for Water, The demand for water to be used for mining purposes is greater in Nevada township this season than for years before. The South Yuba Canal Company jas demand for 1,800 inches per day, or more than all the ditches supplying this locality can convey, The entire sales ot water by the South Yuba Company last week was 81,000 inches, and the largest week’s sales ever made by the Company was only 52,000 inches. This much could probably be sold now it it could be supplied, and this fact. shows the advancement of mining industries. Of the amount.of water now supplied by the South Yuba Canal Company, 2,000 inches are, ranning to Dutch Flat, 1,300 in the Snow Mountain ditch and 400 to Blue Tent ia the ridge ditch. This makes a total of 37,000, or counting twenty-four hours, twice that amount, which is 74,000 inches. The ditches which supply this vicinity carry 500 inches less than Quartz at Eareka. ‘The Black & Young mine is being. worked, and the mill is kept in operation. The ledge is of good size and the rock is easily taken out. ; The Erie mine is paying exceedingly wall, the ledge being large and the ore . rich. The Birchville mine will be started up this Spring for the purpose of prospecting. eo The owners of the Jim mine recently hold-a-meeting for the parpose of talking of the propriety of starting up, but their determination is not knowa. The Prize List. We publish this morning a full list ot ‘the déawing of the Grass Valley Lottery. The numbers have been revised, but those who are aware of the difficulty of getting numbers into type correctly, will not be surprised to find that some errors have occurred. Retained in Custedy. Ah Sam, the Chinaman who was brought before Judge Niles yesterday, upon a writ ot habeas corpus, was re— manded to custody, on the ground that . no good reason was shown why he should be discharged. Probate Matters. In the matter of the estate William Maltman, deceased, an order was yesterday made in Probate Court for an allowance to the widow of deceased pending the settlement of the estate. The Episcopal Sewing Society will meet at the residence of Mrs. Geo. F. Jacobe, this, Friday evening. An Insalubrious Season, Spring is welcome, but not. its diseasés, We should be glad to have its bloom without its fogs, its vapers, ite sudden changes of temperature, and the agues, fits of indivestion, bilious attacks, and other harrassing .disordera which they engender. As this can net be; it behooves all sensible people te do the best they can to escape such serious drawbacks on the poetry of the season. Ask any physician what the weak and delicate ought to do when miaema infects the air. The answer will be, ‘‘tone and regulate the system.” But How? That is the important question. A dozen medical men weuld recommend as many different medicines. On the other hand, the thousands who have tested the virtues of Hestetter’s Stomach Bitters as an invigorant and alterative, will recommend but one, the wholesome prevent~ ive and restorative in which their own experience has taught them to trust. A course of this rare vegetable stimulant, commenced now, would save many a pang to the ieeble and debilitated. It would be wise economy too, for it would probably preclude the necessity for medica’ advice. Without disparagement to :ofession which all intelligent men and women respect and honor, it is just as well, if possible, to keep out of the doctor’s hands. aud they would have comparatively few cases of fever and ague, dyspepsia, biliousness,, nervousness, and general debility: to attend to, if this agreeable and healthful specific were in universal use. Walker, Superintendent, made their initial clean-up yesterday, after a run of two weeks, and took up the nice little sum of $1,200. We have seen and handled specimens taken from their claims, which brought forcibly to mind the days gone by, when Randolph Flat pungled out many similar specimens, both in the character of the rock and the quality of the gold. Those brought Up yesterday are of the size of pullet’s eggs, and heavily weighted with gold. We congratulate the Baltic Company on their good fortune and hope soon to chronic‘e rich strikes by all the claims now. in course of opening, a8 well as those being worked in that Ve Tue SsoRAMENTO ExEcTIoN.— In the Municipal Election on Tuesday, the Republicans carried every ward and elected’ the entire ticket by deStnaton Wand of Sen Fra ncisco is ® Democratic candidate for Congress THOS.
