MINING OPERATIONS. —The weather of
the past week has been cold enough to freeze
‘up the diggings and. cuuse a very general
‘_ssupension. of mining operations throughout
the county. We know ofseveral companies
“on Gold Flatand in this vicinity that were.
compelled to stop ‘cleaning up” in consequence of the freezing weather of the past
three days. In the mining camps farther up .
in the mountains all-mining operations must

few of the largest mining companies in the
county, though considerable -washing “has
been . done," have ‘“‘cleaned up” during’ the
* season, and therefore no very large .quantities of dust have yet been brought into the
market. The miners are taking advantage
ofthe great abundance of free water to “wash
down,” when the weather ig not too cold,

THe Latest STYLES. Haas & Co.,
corner of Pine and Commercial streets, have
“just received a large assortment of the latest style of fancy collars for gentlemen.
They are all the rage in San Francisco, and
will no doubt be eagerly sought for by genGo and look at them.
SLEIGHING.— Yesterday we noticed one}
or two sleighs on the streets, the snow being
almost sufficient. to’ cover the planks. We
are informed that the snow covers the ground
to a considerable depth from the top of the
hill on the Washington road to Alpha -and
Omega, and that the sleighing along the
Fidge is magnificent. Mr. Latta, who ruhs
a stage line from this city to the above named places, came inte town With #full loadof passengers in a sleigh yesterday. If
-the present .weather continues we may
have excellent sleighing. between this city
and Grass Valley before the end of the week.
A MisTAKE.—We are requested to state
that the party to be held at the residence of
J.N. Turner, on Friday evening next, is not
intended to raise money for the purpose. of
making up the balance of Rev. H. Cummings’ salury, but that friends of the pastor
design on that occasion to offer some substantial evidence of their esteem for him.—
As Mr. Cummings has many friends in this
community we have no doubt the party will
be largely attended. G
County Taxes.—During the month of
February, County Collector Davenport collected $2,040 foreign miners’ licenses, .
which amount, with. poll taxes and other
licenses, makes the eutire collection for the
month about $2,800. Most of the license’
collections in the county were made last
