The demand for water ‘is gteiiter
than-the water companies can éupply.
In the immediate vicinity’ there isa .
demand for more-than all the ditches
could couvey, if they were running
jull. At Scott’s Flat also the miners
waot--more than the companies can
furnish. In many of the mining camps
the miners have so arranged that they
are enabled to alternate in the use of
water—some of the companies works
ing in day time and others working at
night. The demand for water is much
larger than ever before and is prob~
ably owing to the fact that larger
heads of water are run and hydraulic
mines are worked on a more extensive
scale. ES

indigestion, billionsness, or bowel complainta, the variable weather of early Spring
is almost sure to develop one or other of these
aliments. Intermittent fevers are also more
prevalent in the spring months than at any
other season except Autumn. In view of
these facts, this seems to be a proper time to
invite especial attention to-Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, medicine which for a long series of years, haz proved superior to all others

and as protection against the miasma which
irequently produces, and always aggravatds
them. It was formerly the practice to give
violent cathartics as “‘spring medicines,” nor
is the custom yet entirely obselete. Nothing
however, can be more ill-judged and unphilosophical. The chilhng moisture with which
the air is loaded at the breaking up of winter,
presses heavily upon the vital forces of the
body, and reinforcement, not depletion, is
what it reqnires. The Bitters isa genial and
excellent tonic, a moderate alterative, and
just enough of an apperient to regulate without convulsing the bowels. It is therefore, a
