Trimming Fruit Trees. b.
Most of theowners of orchatds
and. vineyards around town havé
been trimming their vines and trees.
The is now, in consequence of
the warm weather, rising very rapidly, and it will soon be too late to
de it, particularly on grape vines.
Every iadication is now favorable to
& large fruit yield. Thosé who have
trees or vines should attend to thetn .
at once. Fruit will probably be of
more value hereafter than it has for~ merly been. That is if the railroad
is built. *

~~ Hotels, ~
Nevada City can boast of as fine
hotels as any town inthe State, They
ure large, well furnished and well
_kept. Travelers go away with smiling countenances after stopping at
them. We expect when the railroad
is completed ‘to see them filled to
overflowing. We expect to see tour.
ists come up here to see the mines,
to inhale.the pure atmosphere, and
to enjcy the scenery surrounding the
‘county seat, and we fell assured the
-socommodations and attention they
will receive from the hosts of our hotels will indace them to repeat their
visit. ;
The Amateurs.
The ramor we reported yesterday
in reference to our local dramatic
troupe going to Grass Valley, proved
to be true. We see by the Union
that they will appear in Hamilton
“Hall, at that place, on Saturday
night next: ‘Luke the Laborer’
and “Irish Assurance and Yankee
Modesty” are the plays to be presented. We commend the ‘members of the association as not only
good performers, but as ladies and
gentlemen of a superior order.
A New Resident.
John T, Morgan, ourworthy
County Assessor, is making arrangements tg come to this city, where-he
will reside permanently. Last Summer Mr. Morgan purchased the residence of Richard Kelsey, on Main
atreet, on speculation, but as we ure
going to-have a railroad, Morgan has
coneluded to oceupy the house himself with his family.
Dr. Haskell’s Lectu
On Tuesday night Dr. Haskell
again lectured at the Theatre to a
large audience. His subject was,
“Woman go thy way and sin no
more.”” Last night a lecture on
what he knows about circuses and
showe generally, or thirty years experience as a showman, was. to be
delivered.
_ Local Reporter. ;
J.W. Maddrill, late of the San

How Not to Die.
Thousands fall a prey to disease not be
cause the maladies that affect them are nec
essarily fatal, but because they lack the requisite amount of detivie vitality to make
& valliant resistance to the enemy. Itjis a
wise precaution to keep the body always in
a state of defence—always prepared to”
‘fend off” the germs of epidemic and other
disorders, aidto baffle the evil influence
of damp miasma and sudden thermometyical changes. There is no difficulty in deing this. Itis® fact as well authenticated
as that two and two make four that Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters is specially adapted
to this purpose, and for the simple reaso
that its invigorating and regulating properties are superior to those of any otheg
medicine in the world. During the twenty-five years that it has been in general use
ample opportunit.es have been afforded to
compare its medicinal properties with those
of other prepsrations claiming to be ofa
similar class, aud the result has been ts
standard tonic of the age, its introduction
into every civilized portion of the trestern
hemisphere, and the annual sale which
dwarfs into insignificance the demand forall its would-be competitors. : i
The record upon which its popularity
rests is a curiosity im medicinal literature,
for it includes an almost unlimited variety’
of human ailments and. disabilities: In
fact, no other remedy possesses such a Variety of hygenic virtues, and it is owing to
these characteristics that it owes its prestige as a household medicine. ‘4
It is no exageration to say that Hostetters
Stomach Bitters is the most faithful ally of
nature, im her struggles with weakness and
disease, that medical botany and honest
chemistry have yet giveu to the werld.
