A party of-men stretched a rope across the street, and threw a coat across the line, over which the man consented to jump his horse. The boys got everything all ready and the equestrian rode to the cor ner of Commercial street. He made a feint as though he was going to start for the leap,but instead wheeled his horse and went over the hill, greatly to the disgust of the crowd. It is said he suddenly changed his policy on observing “Local Items” on the cortier. ComIne.—Alice Eisgsbesy. the “Elfin Star,” has just concluded a successful engagement at San Francisco, and will shortly visit Nevada. She has met with greater success than any actress who has visited this State for many years. On her return she will appear in several new plays. New MILL.—Southard’s new saw mill at Scott’s Flat, will be completed in about ten days. The engine was built at the Nevada Foundry by Heagh & Thom. The machinery is all of the first quality. The new mill is located in a range of first-rate timber, and in a vicinity where there will be considerable demand for lumber. te" The life of trade is a well organized favored with in the North American S. 8S.
