Tue: THEATRE.—We bees been so often
geld by various companies which have come
here’ to perform, that we take the more
pleasure iu saying.a word of commendation
for the present efficient Company. -It pos:
geases the talent to render a piece as. it’
should be. It has the scenery to set off the
play to advantage, for artists have been'sent
here specially to paint and gild with a view
that these plays may present a fine appearance. The necessary machinery for exhibiting tuese plays has been brought from
San Francisco at considerable expense, and
an audience _in Nevada city, Mrs. Sedley .
Brown, supported by a first class Company.
The manager, Mr. Chas. Tibbetts, hae left
nothing undone to make their performances
“worth seeing, and if our citizens will not
support them, how ean they expect the best
tuleut which Comes tu this State to visit our
city. They have given two performances,
the “Statue Bride” and the “Naiad Queen,”
record as to the excellence of the Company. To-vight the “Bronze Herse” will -be
given. Let the Theatre be kept well filled

their tunnel they have run eighteen feet into
the ledge and, are not through it yet. Oh!
no! there are no big ledges--around here,
they are in Moatana. Over a hundred men

made. Mr. Beaver, the agent for the San
Francisco Co., ‘has. just started the new
pump and hoisting works in that locality.
To ATTORNEYS AND LITIGANTS.— R. H.
Farquhar, County Clerk of this pre again VARIETY STORE,
gives notice that on and after Monday next,
he will perform no official duty whatever,
for which the legal fees shall net have been
paid in advance. We presume all county
officials will go and do likewise, as the law‘
requires them to pay all moneys into the
Treasury on the Ist of each month, and
whether the officers get the money or not,
they are required to pungle. As a matter
of course, they will not give credit to anybody. So don’t go to the Court House tot
have legal business done, unless you have
the Coin in your puckets.

CELEBKATION—T'he San Juan_ Sie
of Odd Fellows, will celebrate the FortySeventh Anniversary ot thé Order, on the
sion of the brethren in full regalia, accompanied by the San Juan Brass Band. The
Rev. J. W. Ross will deliver an oration,
sid the whole will conclude with a grand
ballin the evening. The San Juan Lodge
is oue of the most prosperous ones in the
county, the membership being as large as
the Lodge here or at Grass Valley. It
seems surprising that such should be the
case, when we consider that our population
is four or five times as large.

Geranp MATINEE.—The ladies, families
nd children of this city aid. vicinity will
have a Grand Matinee performance on Saturday afterneon, commencing at 2 o'clock.
It willbe given by the Sedley Brown troupe
now playing at the Theatre. This will be
quite a novelty and a treat tor the little
ones. There will be no pestpenement of
the Matinee.on any account of rain or shine,
hod those who make arrangements to at-~
tend will not be disappointed. *
New Goops.—A. Goldsmith, under the
RANSCRIPT office, has just received a large
and most beautiful stock of Dry Goods. ‘The
ladies are particularly’ invited to call and
ee the pretty things. . Talk about styles—
Goldsmith has every kiad—from the smallest figures to the American Eagle sur
rounded by the stars and stripes. Ifyou
don’t believe it, gu and see for yourselves.
Ladies are specially invited. *

‘A Card from the Trustees of the Nevada Theatre Company.
peared under the head of :‘Beware of Greenbacks,”’
a fabrication of contemptible, dirty lies against the
Trustees of the Nevada Theatre Company, over the
signature of Julius Dreyfuss. He savs that he cemmenced a suit against the Theatre Company before
Justice Palmer and that the Trustees paid him in
Greenbacks In reply to the above, Julius Dreyfuss never commenced suit against the Theatre Company in Justice Palmer’s or any other Court— neither did the Theatre Compariy or its: Trustees ever
pay him in Greenbacks—neither do the Theatre
Company owe him anything.
THE TRUSTEES,
m23 Of the Nevada Theatre Company.
Through respect for Julius Dreyfussand his Greenback grievance, we will help
him to more fully explain the case. J. Dreyfuss
sold a Bill of $1900 against the Theatre Company
to a man by the name of Staley. Now it appears,
Staley, the naughty fellow. has paid the unsuspect.
ing Juliusin Greenbacks. Surely, no intelligent citizen would blame us for a mcan action committed by
others. THE TRUSTEES,
