Tae Revinixe Orricers.—The people
4 —-@f the county have reason to be satisfied
: with the services of-the outgoing county.
. @ficers. Let us look at a few facts. The
debt of the county twe_ years ago was, in
> ound numbers, $110,000 Et is ‘now $35,. Seventy-five thousand of that debt has
> been paid off, in effect; ur rather the whole
++ of it, and $30,000 of ‘accruing indebted~
nets besides; tur the expenses of the two
. eouaty paid $11,000. interest money per anx
gum. It now pays about $2,000 per anpum. Against this showing is the lact that
only $40,000 of indebtedness was paid off in
the two-years—previous: —It-is-ateo—tove
considered that since ‘the discovery of silver-overthe—mountaing, practically during
the past two-yeare, «many of the ‘towns of
‘the county have decreased in business, 60
that licenses of the first class are nut sold at
all; brokers instead of bankera licenses
are taken out; liquor licenses have ‘vastly
i decreased in number, as also billiard table
+ licenses, bowling alleys, &c. Any one
. . who travels.over the county will be — pain»

-We believe there is no citizen but will
conear in our estimate as te the character
and services of the retiring officers. Ic is
* well to praise where praise is deserved. As
to the other county officers, they hold over,
and their record is not complete. So far,
they have had public approbation..
StPERVISORS.—An Act to allow addition. compensation to the Board of Supervisors
f this county, was introduced in the Seuiate
dadgeRoberts; “and passed that body on
Luteday last. We believe the object of thi,
ct is to compensate the Buard for addition. time spent in transacting county business,
gother than that prescibed by law. Now,
(they are only allowed pay for sixty days in
he year. The time required for the settiement of townsbip affairs, and the increase
7 of business on account of the fire, render a
. Session, longer than that prescribed by law,
‘Dnecessary. The bill provides fur the pay~
ment of the Buard for additional services.—
We hope it will. pass the Assembly and bes
