_ DIscHarcEp.—Holland, who was exam_ med before Judge Kendall, on Monday
“evening; upon the chargé of assault with
intent to murder Butler, was discharged
__ from custody, the shooting being’ corisid“ered justifiable. Butler was waiting upon Holland’s wife, and the latter deter‘mined to administer a wholesome rebuke
‘which he did in the shape of a leaden
bullet from a Colt’s revolver. He’ said to
_ the officer who arrested him: ‘I supposed
for some time that my wife-was-untrue to
mie, and last Sunday night I ambuscaded
‘behind a tree, on Nevada street ard saw
the proot of it. I,asked Butler what he
was doing with my wife and shot him,”—
Another colored man commenting on this
affair, said: “De black people. got to stop
» waiting on one anoder’s’ wives, Dat’s
what makes all de trouble.” . When. re“minded that he had . done 80, he replied :
“Hush, honey, what is past is past, for de

“Thete is « moral in this little affair that
may benefit many, if heeded.

Tur Youne Levcr:—The Young ledge,
located at Eureka, and owned by Black &
Young, is being steadily worked notwith-gtanding the .snow, which lies nine feet
deep at the mill. The.lower tunnel opens
the vein two hundred feet below ‘the'surfaee: ‘ The ledge, which is four feet wide,
has been stripped for three ‘handred ‘feet . ’
and along the whole distance presents a
beautiful appearance. The rock, which is
‘of a dark grayish color, . is studded
‘with, ffhe.gold. . The,,company has ' one
hundred and fifty tons of this rock at their
‘mill and can get-it out of the mine rapidly
énough to keep the mill constantly at
vwork. They have an‘ abundant supply
of wood on hand, and will not be interrupted by the storms. This mine will
show a large yield of sce at the. end: of .
“the present year.
‘THE RANCHING ProsPects.—The prosspect is géod for an average grain and a
large hay, crop in the lower’ part’ of the
. County this season, The early planting
“was So far advanced, except in the marshy
‘places, that the’heavy rains have done no
harm, and it is growing thriftily. The
“cold weather several weeks ago froze some
‘of the ‘crops which were planted late, but’

after his solos was called out three . times

banjo with equal facility. The dancing
‘by Miss Eimma Miles’ and Josephine was
first rate and.elicited great applause. We
have seldom seen an audience more amused and entertained than‘on Monday evening.. There is. a freshness about the

THE TARGET PRACTICE.—The Nevada
Light Guard will turn out on next Satur.
day for parade and target practice. The
Company is: ordered to appear at the Ar
mory at half past 9" o'clock; ‘a. a. They
will “march to the shooting ground at
Mulloy’s, on the Red Dog road. We understand that several purses will be shot
for, besides other prizes offered by the
friends of the Company. We hope to see
the ranks full on Saturday.
CANDIDATES FoR, City OFFices.—Already the “peops” are beginning to talk of
candidates for city officers at the charter
election which is'to take piace on the first
Monday of May. The contest will be lively for Marshal, and for this office the
heaviest fight will be made.’ We are not
sure that we have heard:all thecandidates
mentioned, but will: give the: names-of
those we Have heard spoken of in/ connec‘tion -with: the city offices. . For Marshal,
we have heard Tom Canfield, Chas. Cornell, Wm. Scott and Silas Austin mentioned, For Assessor Chas. H. Mead, and for
Treasurer, Wm. F. Evens.
THe Liserty Mixe.—A lot of rock
from the: Liberty mine at Eureka, is being
worked in the arrasta of Booth & Co,, at
that place, andis yielding handsomely.—
This claim is owned by oe and others

No Go—On Monday a party of ladies
and gentlemen started from this city to
wigit the mines of,;.Grass Valley. Their
team “baulked” this side of the Town
Talk, and.after a heavy halfday’s work
by the gentlemen, in trying to induce the
team to go ahead, the party gave up in
despair and. returned to town—tired out
and disappointed.

this-is the case, acupdla never should be
put upon the building, as it would certainly injure the structure greatly.
